Ahoy all,
Wanting to take a break from my usual Kriegsmarine stuff, I decided to
convert the Revell "British" MTB into an actual Royal Navy MTB.
As stated by the experts, the Revell offering is a Vosper design but
built in the USA at Herreshoff yards in Bristol, RI. and none of these
boats actually went to the Royal Navy but rather were transferred to
the Soviet Union.
So, with hobby knife in hand, styrene sheet and assorted bits, here
is where I am at.
In the end, I will be happy to have a better representation of a
70ft Royal Navy MTB in my collection.
Once finished, I will write an article on this conversion and state all
the different reference sources which have helped with this project.
Hope you like it.
Cheers,
Joe

Thanks,
Has to be all finished in 6 weeks because it is being entered in a local
IPMS show in September,
Presently, working on new torpedo tubes as the kit ones are all wrong
and short.
More pics to follow.

Are you aware that the kit scallops for the torpedo tubes are wrong for an RN boat? The Soviet boats had angled scallops, while those on the standard design were curved.

Hello Al,
Thanks for your comments..... please excuse my lack of knowledge on
ship terms....."scallops"? ...are you referring to the front end of the torpedo
tube?....if not what is a "scallop"?
I know that on the RN boats the torpedo tubes and supports are very different
than the kit parts.
I am making new torpedo tubes as seen in many photo references I have.
Here is some work so far on the tube and the torpedo warhead insert.
Any comments or reference are always greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Joe

Hello Al,
Bump.....my question on "scallops".
Yes, the scallops will have to be corrected, did some ... will have to
make the necessary mods.
Thanks again for bringing it up.

Hello Al,
No, I don't have this book but I did acquire Ship Craft Allied Torpedo Boats
in which you have many drawings.
Is the other book that you mention more technical and thorough?
Is it currently available?
Cheers,
Joe

Many of the drawings in ALLIED TORPEDO BOATS came from ACF V2. The latter is long out of print, but you could probably find a copy through interlibrary loan. However, I suspect ATB will provide you with pretty much all you will need for your project. John's stuff is based on the factory drawings, so it's extremely reliable.
