Hello there.
I find myself in the strange postion of having both the Academy and Trumpeter versions of the Admiral Graf Spee. What I was wondering is the differences between the three ships of the class, visually. I am not really worried about nitpicking stuff like one being 0.2 of a metre wider than the other (which is very very little in 1/350). I am interested in visual stuff like radars, armament etc. What I want to do is make one as the Graf Spee and another as the Lutzow (aka Deutchland) or Admiral Sheer.
Thanks in advance.
Warren

I would not suggest the Deutschland/Luetzow, as the bridge and conning tower were totally different from the other two.
Regarding Admiral Scheer you need to decide which time period. Before mid 1940 she was a near sister to Admiral Graf Spee in appearance. After Aug. 1940 the upper conning tower was replaced by a heavy mast for topweight reasons
Of course the equipment like radar and flak was upgraded contionously over the time. And they were repainted with different camouflage frequently.

Thanks heaps for that Tom. I will make them about 1939 when the Graf Spee was scuttled and call one the Graf Spee and one the Admiral Sheer!

Have a look here:

These are prewar profiles for Admiral Scheer. You can directly compare them with the ones from the Graf Spee from the same website.
An attractive version isfrom 1937 when she had the colored neutrality markings on the heavy turrets. One obvious differencefor the earlier ship is the plane. They had the Heinkel He 51 biplane at that time, while the Graf Spee models all have the Arado 196 monoplane which became standard in 1939.

They have histories and profiles for all the big ships of the Kriegsmarine there with all the variations of the camouflage. There has been a lot of new information and photos appearing in the last years which changed a lot of traditional ideas.

The camouflage on the superstructure of Graf Spee was e.g most probably not green as in many drawings but grey to name just one.

I think, I am Tom

Thank you Daniel for the interesting links. It seems the Graf Spee is more famous in your area than in Germany now. Probably after Pearl Harbour one of the best documented sinkings of a warship. I hope she will stay there, the idea of raising her sounds very strange for me

Hi Tom!! Shangai??
To dismiss the year in Shangai its cool!!!
Yes in my country is very an acquaintance since more near to the WWII was. It to generated legends and history. I knew several survivors taken root here . few years ago from the coast the masts of the Spee were seen.

Rescuers it want to refloat and to construct to big museum but there are many legal problems.... Good I have many books on this ship to the order.
See this articles with intersting images

Yes Shanghai, but its not so funny as it sounds. No fireworks here for new year, only later for chinese new year. And then its weeks of detonations, day and night, lol.
I don't think it makes sens to raise the ship or more parts simply too corroded. When you see the rangefinder, it will be gone in a few years if it is not specially treated. Who should do this with a complete ship (which anyway has been blown up)?
Greetings from Shanghai
