Ever since the USS Orleck was moved to Lake Charles, 15 miles from my city of Sulphur, I've wanted to build a model of her as she was when she was a member of the famous Train Busters Club of Korea. I'll be using the Dragon 1/350 USS Gearing kit with Alliance Modelworks photo etch railings.

Here's what I got done while watching the Saints destroy the Panthers.

Weather deck attached, first level of the superstructure built and the twin 5" gun mounts almost done. I've never had a weather deck go in with out a bit of a gap here and there until now.

Twin 40mm mounts built along with the practice loaders.

Here's the Orleck in her heyday off the Korean coast.

Thanks for looking.

Coming along nicely! I've got two of the Gearings in my stash...hoping to start one when I finish my Z-31. Powerful looking ships!

The twin barrel turrets look rather beefy on the Fletcher hull. Very nice looking ship Kenny !

Thanks Julian. It's a Gearing hull, not Fletcher.

Yes, I know its a Gearing. Wasn't that the follow up class of destroyers based on the Fletcher hull? It certainly looks very similar to the Fletcher hull.

The reason it looks like a Fletcher hull is because they took the Fletcher hull and added about 10' to the mid ship section

And twin rudders if I remember correctly, to help improve handling in comparison to the single rudder Fletchers,
cheers,
Julian
