Oh No! Both PT-109 and an X-craft, How will I ever explain this one to the wife? A wise man once said," Be careful what you wish for". Boy, was he ever right. Al

Looks like Italieri has found a nich in its naval line - 1/35 monsters. Right now I'm working on their P.T. 596, a great kit by the way, and if I can figure out a way to slip them past the C-in-C I'd love to have their Vosper and Schnellboot kits. Can you tell I'm a sucker for MTBs? And, I'll have to have their 103 Class Elco 80 footer if I have to sell a kidney.

Its very exciting news.

First it bodes well for Italeri continuing thier line of 1/35th vessels, especially as they are already going to do a variation on the original PT boat. Perhaps a dog-boat isn't quite so much of a pipe-dream after all!

Second, no matter what the cost of the Italeri kit it won't be as financially crippling as Accurate Armours resin alternative!

The X-craft will look really neat on the shelf next to the Vosper MTB, I went out and bought the LCVP to do in RN colours to go with it as well, I think I'm hooked on these things!

Keep going Italeri, you'll drive me to bankruptcy sooner or later.

Along with the X-craft theres TONS of kits that are tempting me, not least of which is a new Sunderland in 1/72. I seriously doubted anyone would ever do one!

Having built a 1:48 Midway, I can say that a 20-foot long capital ship (like a 1:35 Tirpitz) would be an attention-getter and having the Italeri X-craft beneath would make an impact!

It would indeed, but, have you ever considered how many 1/35 Kriegsmarine crewmen you would need? Al

If the X-craft is depicting attacking on Rope Yarn Sunday, you could have a manageable number of crew figures topside, say, 200 or so?????

Only 200, Ah yes, a mere bag'o'shells (with a nod to W.C.Fields). Al
P.S. May I ask what exactly Rope Yarn Sunday might be?

You'll soon have enough landing craft to model Sword, Juno, or Gold, or maybe you're aiming to do all three? Al

HI Al,

I'm really hoping for a new LCA and even an LCV. or LCPL.

I've been keeeping an eye out for a reasonably priced Italeri kit for some time. Theere is a big difference in size between the Trumpeter offering and the Italeri kit and from various viewings I'd say the Itaeri kit is closer to the mark.
That said apparently there were different makers so differences in size! (?).

Anyway I found one for £36.00 instead of £50.00 so it was too good a deal to pass up. I have another LCVP I got for £20.00 so I'll finish both in the more common D Day type scheme of what appears to be white/blue.?

Talking LCs, how difficult do you think it wwould be to convert the UDT Boat to an LCPL?

Building them is way down the line though.

Cheers

Al

Hello Alan, I'm no expert on LCP's, but I think it mostly would be a matter of rebuilding the bow. I don't know for sure, but I've heard that the Monogram UDT has some size issues, so you might have to deal with that also. You would have to compare it to some plans of a LCP(L) to see how much work would really be needed for such a conversion. Al

Hi Al,

The LCP (R) was 35'10" in length making the kit about 4ft short.

The LCP (L) was 36'8" in length so there is an issue with the basic kit, and where that missing length would go is another matter

All the more reason for a new kit of either, hope Italeri are listening .

Thanks for the thoughts.

Found this on another site. No further information on when the release date might be.

I hate to make any judgement based only on a drawing, but it looks good, and going on Italeri's past performance, it should be a winner. Al

Thanks for the update Al, does look a bit good, and a bit closer.

Lets hope it lives up to expectation, will be up for one anyway.
