Hey Jan,

Like your "U-boot im Eismeer", a very nice and remarkably life-like built...
I especially like the "oil canning" and the sea base.
Could you share us some words about the oil-canning technique ?

Top work !
regards,
Werner

Really nice work Jan! The weathering is spot on and I really dig your water.

Cheers!

Don't be so modest Jan, the oil canning can be seen and is really good !
Beautiful craftmanship.

Thanks guys, and thanks for putting the feature up. A little correction, the kit is labeled by Pitroad, but contains Trumpeter parts.

@ Werner - my approach is to look at referances an on basis of that, draw up lines on the hul depicting bulkheads and other support under the "skin" - the areas not supported should get the treatment - I use a curved exacto blade - No 5 i think?? - and gently scrape between supports.

A bit of sanding and some licquid glue to even out most of the sharp marks left by the blade.

A question? - is the base too small, would it benefit to have a larger base so the wessel doesn“t sit so close to the edges ??

The result can be strenghtend by pre- and post shading.

Thanks for explaining the method, Jan.
about the base : in my opinion it is a question about proportion and composition...
I would say in this case it is very good.
You could make the base bigger but than you have the job of creating the wave pattern more extensive... Also you will have less space in your showcase (and end up like me with a showcase full of water rather then ships:)
Anyway, you have a small display to be proud of...

while 1-350, this is still quite a small model which is really well turned out, great weathering and sea effect, if I may be brave and say - on your next build, say like the bottom right hand photo, destroyer in the sea, take a couple of B/W snaps as well.
