I'm looking at the Trumpeter 1/144, Riich 1/200 and AFV Club 1/350 scale kits. I'd like to try to do the USS Harder. Does anyone have experience with these kits? Harder was launched August 1942, lost in late 1944.

The Trumpeter Gato is the least detailed. The conning tower is very bland and the guns don't look right at all. The AFV Gatos are excellent. I just recieved the Riich Gato. It looks very good, and is big. I personally am hoping Riich releases a more iconic mid/late war version soon.

I'm thinking of getting the AFV 1943 kit. I also looked at the Riich kit and was wondering if they were going to extend the series. This will be my first sub build, and all I know about the Gato class subs came from what I have read through the Ibiblio links. I read "Run Silent, Run Deep" several times as a kid and it's always been on my mind. I could have had the Revell 1/72 kit for $60.00 but passed on it because I couldn't think of where I would put it.
