Greetings from Bristol UK, where the latest addition to your membership is researching the old steam ferry boats that once plied back and forth across Portsmouth Harbour with the intention of scratch-building 1:48 scale models of two of them: 'Ferry King', built by Camper and Nicholson at Gosport and launched in 1918, and 'Vadne', built by Vosper in 1939.

I've already obtained enough information to start the model of 'Ferry King' and taken photos of 'Vadne', now lying derelict at Forton Creek, Gosport. All the drawings for 'Vadne' and her sister-vessels were destroyed during World War Two, with the exception of the lines drawing. In Volume II No.1 of 'Model Shipwright', the Autumn 1973 issue, there is a two-page article by W.A.Brewer in which he describes building a model of 'Ferry Prince', a sister-vessel of 'Vadne'. He states that he 'spent several hours photographing and measuring everything literally from stem to stern.' I have tried to find out what happened to this material and his model, so far without success, and I wonder if any of you can help me.

If you're interested, some of my 'Vadne' photos can be viewed on Facebook, here's the link:

All the best from this ol' Turkhead - cheers!
