Hi all. I'm pretty new to "floating things" being a tread head most of my life. A friend of mine asked me build him a model of Iron Shipwrights FF1090 USS Ainsworth. Any idea what I'm in for? Just how big is this kit? Any photo etch? Any major problems with it?
TIA
Jesse

It comes with PE, which is pretty good quality, as are the decals. Other then the hull parts and MAC, most of the small resin parts will have to be replaced, cleaned up or modified. The instructions are abysmal. If you can stick it out it'll build into a great kit, but it's not for the faint of heart or the inexperienced.
White Ensign Models also makes a Knox Class in 1/350. It's slightly more expensive, and the detail is less crisp, but it's an easier build with better instructions.
For me it comes down to detail vs. ease of build.
The WEM offering is here: WEM Knox

Scott,
Thanks for the info. It shouldn't be a big problem. How big is the kit?

15" long, and up to a couple of inches wide in 1/350...

Does anyone make an upgrade/replacement set for this ship? I'm talking about the missle launchers, CIWS, that kind of stuff.

Veteran Models makes CIWS and ASROC. L'Arsenal makes the 5" as well as bitts and chocks, (both missing from the ISW kit)...
