I am building a 1/720 Italeri USS Independence, CV-62, circa late 1960's, and am getting close to painting the hull. Some color images I have found thru Google searches appear to indicate the port sponsons were painted what appears to be a dark(deck?) gray. At first I thought the darker color was shadows, but decided the sponsons were perhaps painted that way. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks ,
JIm

Having been on carriers back in the 60-70's the deck parts were painted a dark gray non slip surface. Since the Indy was tied up at the same pier with us, I don't recall any darker gray on the exterior of any of ours or their sponsons.
