So with all the big Italeri torpedo boats out now, as well as the numerous smaller kits out there, I wondered if it was time for an MTB campaign? This would cover all scales, all nations, MTBs, PTs, S-Boots, M.A.S. boats, etc. and so forth. I figure it would also cover the various incarnations including conversions to gun boats et al.

What do you all think? I'm sure I'm missing some variations that should be covered, so let me know. I figure it would be about an 8 month campaign. Feel free to chime in!

Ahoy Michael

Superb idea.

Of course I would say that as I love S- Boats (E-Boats).

Not sure if its been done before. If so it must have been awhile ago.

Cheers

Michael,
Wonderful idea!
I'll join this one...how many participants do we need for a campaign?
Cheers,
Joe

Joe,

I think we need 8 to get one started. With you, me and Sean we're well on the way in only a day.

Hi Michael, I'm interested in this campaign but due to personnel issues I'm unable to commit right now.

If I can then I'll be in with a little 1/350 'dog boat' MTB or MGB

Luciano,

Assuming we get approved, I don't think we'll start until May or so. Will that help?

Hello Michael,
You do need 8 to start a campaign on MSW. I would suggest a July start time as dive 3 ends at the end of June, I think and I am going to extend the Enterprise campaign for a whole year with a end date of December 31st.
So that will give a nice campaign go in between the other 2 that are running now.
Write it up and submit to me and I will take a look over it and most likely approve it.
Cheers,
Bruce

Bruce,

Thanks! July sounds like it does make sense. Right now we only have 4, possibly 5, interested so I figure I'll wait to submit until we have at least the required 8.

BTW, great to see you back! How're you doing?

Hi Everyone.

I have a number of the 1/350 boats from White Ensign and the 1/350 S-boat that came with the Trumpeter Prinz Eugen, so I will be in.

Cheers

Great! If we count Luciano (and I think that with a proposed July start we should count him), we have 7 now. Only one more needed! I'm going to start trying to write up some rules and post them here for comment before I submit, so keep watching!

OK, here's my first stab at some rules. This is being posted specifically for comment purposes, so let me know if you think something should be changed or if they make sense:

1. Any scale, any era, any modeling medium (for those wooden, etc. ship types out there), any nationality.
2. Must be some sort of Motor Torpedo/Gun boat including field or factory conversions.
3. The model must be of an actual, historic vessel. No what-ifs or unbuilt designs.
4. Model can be up to 10% started (for those like me who take a stab at starting something then put it away to start something else. I’m running out of completely unstarted kits in my collection!)
5. Model can be stand alone or in a diorama, with or without crew.
6. OOB, detailed, super-detailed, with or without aftermarket; all OK.
7. Eight months to complete the campaign.
8. Enter as many times as you like but only one ribbon per modeler.
9. Must post some in-progress shots to the campaign thread and must post at least one photo of the finished project to the campaign gallery to get a ribbon.
10. Learn something about these fascinating boats and have fun!

Hello Michael,
Are you going to allow the pre WW 1 torpedo boats in? they turned into destroyers later on.
If so I think I might be in on this one.

Well, what do you all think? I don't want to include destroyers per se but the WWI torpedo boats were labeled as such. I'm thinking they should be in, but how should I word the rules to keep it limited to that?

I guess upon further research I'd say: torpedo boats: yes, torpedo boat destroyers: no. Does that make sense? If so, it looks like we have 8-9 signing on and I'll submit this baby.

I would be up for this one. Probably an Italeri 1/35 Elco. Not sure which one though.

OK, it's been submitted with the following rules:

1. Any scale, any era, any modeling medium (for those wooden, etc. ship types out there), any nationality.
2. Must be some sort of Motor Torpedo/Gun boat including field or factory conversions. Can be anything designated as a “torpedo boat”, but no “torpedo boat destroyers”.
3. The model must be of an actual, historic vessel. No what-ifs or unbuilt designs.
4. Model can be up to 10% started (for those like me who take a stab at starting something then put it away to start something else. I’m running out of completely unstarted kits in my collection!)

9. Must post some in-progress shots to the campaign thread and must post at least one photo of the finished project to the campaign gallery to get a ribbon.
10. Learn something about these fascinating boats and have fun!

These can be modified even after approval. I'll let you know when I hear!

Don't know about the Canadian part of the question but there's always the good old Airfix 1/72 MTB kit. It's pretty good and not too large or small.
