While looking for something else, I chanced upon this astounding diorama created by a Frenchman. The text is in French, but you can likely get Google to translate for you.

There's a sub freshly launched, and another on the ways on page 9, and the bottom of page 14 has some overview shots. It looks as if it will never be done, as he keeps adding new stuff.

I agree with all the others. Having tried some of those 1/700 kits, I admire the skill and patience required.
