I recently purchased a 1/1 model wine bottle from "Yick Long Vukh Models" of Saigon Vietnam. After looking in the box I saw some things that didn't look quite right to me so I whipped out my trusty calipers to give Yick Long's latest offering a good inspection:

As you can clearly see something doesn't look quite right here.

The beam of this bottle doesn't seem to match the real object. I checked this with an excellent bottle of Pinot Noir, (not a double but similar enough to be called a sister-bottle):

As you can see the the Pinot Noir is a more speedy and sleeker design than Yick Long would have us believe:

As you can see here the underwater hull of Yick Long's bottle bears no resemblance to the Pinot Noir.
Thanks to my trusty calipers i cannot endorse Yick Long Vukh's model. Maybe you can spend months trying to inflate the Yick long offering, I cannot live with this though and will continue to buy the original Pinot Noirs,

Somebody has obviously been heavily drinking, Er, researching wine bottles to be able to provide such an in depth review. However, I think I'll do a little 'research' of my own to verify our esteemed colleague's opinion. Al

Thanks for the tip off Julian,

If these guys bring out 1-1 beer bottles I am steering clear, to much effort to get it right.

About time for some more humour on the site.. I wonder if the person it is aimed at will read and appreciate it..

Are you going to contact Yick Long Vukh Models direct for a replacement or their distributor in Europe, Who Flung Dung Enterprises?

Oh, and one more thing, when was the last time your calipers were calibrated? Those thousands of an inch can make all the difference..

Digital verniers are not to be trusted, you need to draw a few random lines across the items in order to truly prove your point.

I think that you will find, with more thorough research, that your imported bottle is in fact a white wine bottle with a cork seal, not a screwed cap, in which case all comparisons are rendered irrelevant.

I am sure that with a few years of sanding and puttying and sanding and puttying and a few more random lines, then more sanding and puttying, you will be able to create a reasonably accurate reproduction.

Alternatively, just pop another one open and browse Kitmaker with a goodly sized drop!

Cheers, D

Thank you gentlemen, glad you appreciate the parody. Reality can be even stranger than fantasy though: the squashed bottle comes from VietNam and can be used as a serving tray. The accompanying booklet advises me to, quote "Put your nuts on the tray and pass them around at parties to make friends" Oh yes, I can see Mrs. Gremlin really appreciating me doing that sort of thing

Feel free to visit my extensive buildlog of the Hasegawa 35:1 IJN (Battle of Leyte Gulf version) Spoon.

The Lick Yong 2:1 has more parts of course, two...so its a more complicated build for sure, but I prefer the realism of the 35/1...personal preference I guess.

Here I am with my 2nd Place Winner, IPMS Household Utensils Div.
Do I look proud?...cause I am!!!

I am lodging a complaint at my local hobby shop: they never told me they sold industrial size drums of Alclad and Tamiya paints.
Nice spoon by the way Didn't the Leyte Gulf spoon have a Navy crest on the handle? The handle looks a little too long IMHO, may I run my caliper along it to check?

Read my earlier post, calipers have been rendered obsolete by random lines overlaid on out-of-focus and awkward- angled images.

Get with the program!

I heard a rumour that there is a fork coming out in 35:1 very soon from Fork Me Model Company in Grand Fork Rapids, Botswana.. no news if it is a desert fork or dinner fork as yet, but from some test shot photos I saw the tines looked a bit short...
