Acrylics will work just fine followed by some drybrushing to
pick up on the highlights ie white caps, etc.
Keep the washes on the thin side as to blend with what you
have already painted and not to overwhelm the base coat.
And thank you for the compliment on the Sunderland, I would
of liked to do some weathering, but the client specified a
clean look on the aircraft.
Cheers,
Joe

Looking better but I would still darken with darker blue/gray, if you are representing Nordic waters.

I would actually recommend Acrylic Glossy Medium.
This is a thick white paste which will dry totally clear.
Being a thick paste, it will not only create a wet look if
extended by brush, but applied in layers and a little thicker, will give the water some depth.
It will be good to overcoat your water with this, again
it will help create the illusion of depth, to some extent.
Cheers,
Joe

IMHO, artist's gloss acrylic gel (heavy) is the best and cheapest way to go. Available at artist's supply shop, inexpensive, odorless, and in a jar, which will last several ship dio's. Brush it on top of your basic water (celluclay, or whatever) with a wide brush (1/2" - 1 "), the gel is thick enough to form wave tops. It goes on opaque white, but dries transparent and smooth and glossy ( although I've discovered that Humbrol (clear) Gloss Enamel will give a really wet look to the water). The gel, since it's acrylic, can also be colored or tinted with any acrylic or water based paint.

Joe and Biggles,
I was asking about making the deck and the hull wet. Can acrylic gel be used for the same?

Yes.
Apply thinly to the deck and upper hull sides where there is
run off.
Apply thick to water line area where ship meets water to
create splash effect.
Apply a genereous layer on finished water, after painting, to
create an illusion of depth.
Cheers,
Joe

I should put my glasses on and learn to read! There is a method of using absorbent cotton stretched out and soaked in the same acrylic gel to make the bow wave, as well as deck run-off. I haven't tried it, but there is a tutorial on here somewhere.
