One of the first Dragon kits released years and years ago was a 1/350 Ohio Class SSBN kit. Now a variant of that kit is on its way as the USS Florida, SSGN-728.rnrn

The first pictures have leaked from Shizuoka, but only of the 3d model:

What a disappointment: it seems Dragon went for the cheap route, they only updated the fairway of the missiles hatches leaving all the other (horrible) things the old kit had, in particular the ridicolous ribs on the hull and the propeller (heck, even Google Earth had a picture of it!!!!!).
And I would be curious to know for how much it will retail...

I helped Dragon a bit with this. It is mainly a new turtleback and SEAL DDS, but note that it also has inserts for the Tomahawk missile packs. The original is old enough that it pre-dates their use of CAD, so in order to change or fix the hull, it would have had to be a completely new tool. It's not optimal from a purist's standpoint, but it's better than nothing for those who don't like / want to scratch build.

Thanks for the work Tracy.
Infact I am not at all disappointed on the new parts, but filling and sanding all those ribs on the hull is what makes this kit, just like the old one, a pain...also considering that I am not sure it will retail for cheap...

Oh well, we'll see...
