Hi All!

Now let's see if that works better - ended up in the wrong area yesterday...

After I started commenting a little, I thought it would be fair to introduce myself and show some of my work.

I started modeling as a boy, stopped for some 20 years and then picked it up again seven or eight years ago. I am mainly doing ships, focus on DKM and RN WW 2 models, and I started with Heller's 1/400 OOB before I finally went on with 1/350 and all the nice PE stuff.

My first 1/350 was Trumpeter's Admiral Graf Spee with Eduard and WEM:

The build log for this one - as all my build logs - is on a small but nice German site, here's the link to the Graf Spee:

http://modell-helling.de/node/92

and the gallery

http://modell-helling.de/node/305

Second in line was HMS Prince of Wales, Tamiya with mainly WEM:

Build log:

http://modell-helling.de/node/321

and gallery:

http://modell-helling.de/node/613

Right now I am building the second major unit of Force Z, HMS Repulse, Trumpeter with Eduard, WEM and various small stuff. That's were I am at right now:

and the build log:

http://modell-helling.de/node/623

I am not going to do a full build log here on the Repulse, but I will keep you updated on the major steps...for my next project - no idea what it will be, the stack is big... - I will start a full build log here as well, promised!

Well, the nasty thing called real life gets in the way all too often and I am a very slow modeler anyway, so that disqualifies me for your campaign - but I do like the concept and keep watching with amazement what you all are doing!
The Graf Spee took me quite exactly a year, the PoW about one and a half, and the progress you can see on Repulse results from the last 16 months...so you get the picture.

Now I hope that the links work, and the pictures show up - and I will show progress on my Repulse here, whenever there is something to show. So that may mean some weeks of 'silence' are not unlikely to happen.

Happy about all comments and tips for the ongoing one, and equally happy to answer any questions you might have with the German logs!

Jan

Hi Jan,
From one slow modeller to another, your ships so far look great. I use to average about one model, any model, a year but I have used the Trumpeter campaign (my first) to provide some incentive to move a little more quickly. Seven months and I have almost finished.
Keep the pictures coming.

cheers
Michael

Thanks Michael!

Well, I won't be able to speed up much, simply because my time at the shipyard is rather limited these days. But times may change!

Now, while I'm here again I might as well post the latest progress with the Repulse, lots of small stuff essentially.

more to follow...sometime...

Well, I'm certainly slow, but not entirely idle. So a little progress:

And while I am at it, here some small parts that are collecting dust while awaiting installation:

Just realized the fumbled title 'Admiral Gar Spee' - any way to fix that??

Cheers

Right, that will be my last post here for a while, unfortunately - it's time to move. How nice could a modeler's life be without this real life events...

Anyway, before the disassembly of my shipyard here starts this afternoon, some last pics, of the Repulse just before here voyage, not yet on own power but carefully transported by my 'dock-ship car' and of my old shipyard. Work will commence in a few weeks from a different place and shipyard - I should be able to rebuild it at the new place very similar, that was one main criterium when searching a new apartment

So here the last pics from the old place:

It might well be six weeks before my next post on the Repulse, but it will continue!!

Good news, HMS Repulse reached her new home after a safe voyage of some 130 nm without a scratch.

Referring to Julian's clean shipyard - moving helps, too. Not welcome and not voluntarily, however, once I 'unbox' all my paints, bottles and tools, I will certainly find some things that I assumed being lost long ago...even the carpet monster was tricked - lifting it up and shaking it, it gave away some nice parts of PE.

Beautiful work Jan, nice tight and crispy camo with razor sharp demarcation lines. Good luck in the new shipyard

Shame there's no '350 V&Ws to add to your mix.
Good builds and good luck with your new place.
Don't forget to put some paint on the 2pdr ammo sitting in the trays.

Julian, Keith, Tom, Tim,

thank you very much for your comments and wishes, that's very kind!!

I managed to move HMS Repulse and the shipyard over the weekend, that's the new place:

I actually managed to rebuild the man cave pretty much the same way as it was in the old place, well, lacking the window, but that will work. All the small pieces are still in various boxes...hope they survived the move all right. For now I'm stuck in my old place for some weeks, continue to move the less sensitive stuff (i.e. what you need for real life ) and shipbuilding shall resume sometime mid-late July. I was really scared that I could break something on my Repulse, so that's solved, the rest is just tedious

So much for now, cheers,

Jan

All right, now it was almost two month, but finally the little shipyard commenced work in the new place!

First project are the 4" triples, with Master Barrels and WEM and Eduard PE.
Here's how they look OOB first:

With Master Barrels:

...the WEM PE:

And with the Eduard whiled added:

Quite impressive little things and quite some effort...but I think it pays off!
