Hello everybody.

I recently came across several photos of a beat up U-333 making its way into the sub pens in France; this inspired me to make my current build having seen serious attack with damage to both the conning tower and upper hull. Although my guess is if this were the situation, the boat in question may have sunk, surely there has to be photos of beat up boats making their way home. Money is tight so I can't afford a lot of resources at this time; I have searched online and the only result that came up for me was U-333.

Thanks everyone.

Hello Alex,

I have this link of pre-war U-35 (Type VIIA) showing damage after being rammed by Graf Spee, while on maneuvers.

Bottom of page....good photos.

Cheers,
Joe

Joe.

Those are some great photos. I am researching the Graf Spee for my next model (want to model the wreck yet the photos only depict the port side of the boat and I can't figure out how to depict the stern shattering from the rest of the hull). I know she had an incident with U-35 in the pre-war era. That's some damage.

Thanks my friend.

That particular U-boat was commanded by Peter "Ali" Cremer. U-333 had three fish painted on the conning tower, and he commonly referred to this boat as "the three little fishes". U-333 did NOT sink, and as is shown, the boat and crew made it back to France. If memory serves me (questionable at best), Cremer was stalking a freighter, when an unseen escort overhead hit the sub. After the war, Cremer talked with the escort skipper, who told him they heard a terrible commotion, realized they had hit a u-boat, and assumed it sank. This instance, and several more the crew survived, made the crew of U-333 say "Ali Cremer is as good as life insurance!" When he left the boat for reasssignment to one of the new Electro-boats, U-333 met her demise, being lost with all hands in 1944.
