What first entered the kit market as Pyro and then Aurora model kits in the 60's and 70's eventually ended up under the Lindberg name and now this month Round 2 has re-released these kits under the Lindberg title that they recently acquired.

I've never see these built but Pyro's molding and detail was quite advanced for the day. Nostalgic appeal sounds good to me.

While doing a liittle surfing to get the background on these kits, I noticed a common comment was that the Bon Homme Richard was considered an 'above average' kit for it's time though it's not considered accurate to what Jone's ship actually looked like, at least at the transom.

It is cool that these are available again! I remember my dad buying me a Bon Homme Richard (made at the time by Life-Like, but the exact same plastic and box art as this release) at the San Francisco Maritime Museum gift shop as a kid. Man, after seeing those magnificent museum models I was inspired! After a quick assembly and coat of chocolate brown Pactra enamel my little Richard looked pretty good... and with the addition of some of my mom's sewing thread for rigging, I was ready for the big time!

Great news! I hope many of Pyro's other sailing ships are rereleased, too. Would love to see their Roman merchant ship again.

Wow!! Their Q-ship has 41 pieces! That should please modelers who complain about over-engineering and high parts counts. At least it's close enough to 1/350 to use PE (which it probably needs!). Unfortunately, the Olympia is right out in left field, with absolutely nothing to redeem it. At least Lindbergh has not over-inflated their prices too much (after all they do want to sell them).
