Hey Guys?

May I ask you great group of guys (and one lady) a really dumb question ...

The LINDBERG DE kit? How big (space wise) is that kit? Additionally, how detailed is that puppy? Is there any after-market goodies that could be used on that kit?

Or, the REVELL DE kit ... The same questions are asked ...

I would like to have a DE ...

The Lindbergh 1/125 Blue Devil?

From what I understand, it's not well detailed for it's size. I've seen lots of builds on the net that all use a lot of aftermarket items and scratch building.

Here's a previous MSW discussion about it.

If you're referring to Lindbergh 'Blue Devil', that's been around since the '50's, so I wouldn't expect too much from it (although I'm sure some better modellers than I have had excellent results with it! Be prepared for a lot of head-scratching and scratch-building). On the other hand, the Revell kit is much more recent, and I suspect there is some AM for it.

Thanks, guys, but I was asking about DE (DESTROYER ESCORT) kits. Not DD kits.

Oy! What a land lubber of a mistake to make!! DE not DD!! My apologies.

Here's a link to an assembled version of the kit at Model Warships.

And a link to an 'epmodels' page of an out-of-box look at the kit.

Oh, OK. A few years ago - I had the wheelchair lift in van repaired in Trumbull and had the underside of my van reinforced under the lift ....

Maybe, when I get back to CT (I'm on the Cape because my mother - who's not doing that well is in a rehab center here ... she's not doing well at all) we could meet up one day.

Sure thing, TG. Maybe a halfway point like the USS Nautilus? It's about a hour or so for to there.

Sorry to hear about your mother. I hope she get's better.

Could be doable. My brother's ex-student is the CO of the sub squadron at Groton. We're supposed to go down to see him 'one day' for lunch. I could make it a 'day' there, I guess.

I'm afraid it's not that hopeful for mother and from what I saw yesterday, I agree with the assessment.

The Revell DE is not a bad kit, Paired with the GMM dedicated
PE set, will produce a fine model but there is a huge gap to
be filled between the inner hull sides and the deck if you
are going to use the PE rails.
The model is about 12in. in length.

As far as the Lingberg is concerned, no dedicated PE but
here is one modeler's build, it does not look so bad.

You know, you could consider Lindberg as an 'Amphibious Warfare Model Specialist' when you consider all their amphibious model kits.

They have an LST, LSD, LCI, LCT and a IFS (Inshore Fire Support).

Tweaks to improving those molds could go along way for them given the apparent interest in amphibious warfare modeling that seems to be happening, though they'd still be in their respective 'box-scales'.

Still, I've seen some gems created by modelers who use the Lindberg kits as a sort of scratch base.

This work from a Matt Stein on the 'Model Fleet' forums is a nicely done Lindberg LST.

Hello All,

May I please ask a question?

In 1:600, are there weapons like single 20mm guns, a twin 40mm Bofors, Hedgehogs and depth charges?

I do know that GMM has a US NAVAL SHIP set in 1:600 that has railings, ladders, and radars. But ... does anyone here know of weapons in that scale?

Tim
