Hasegawa 1/350 IJN Isokaze

Hello Everyone.

After quite a few months away from any modelling I finally got my new hobby room sorted and have started doing stuff again.

I donated all my previous efforts to a museum in Brisbane and the person seemed astonished at the detail I managed to cram into the subjects. So I have empty display cabinets just itching to be filled again.

First project in the shipyard is Hasegawa's IJN Isokaze. This is the high detail kit that came with PE, brass barrels for the main armament, brass depth charges for the rear racks and a few other goodies.

It isn't to far from finished and I though I might upload a few piccies for your amusement and edification..
First up one taken earlier in the build..


The bridge area..


And now getting close to finished..




A few railings, some more lifeboats and some more painting and she should be finished... hopefully..

Hi Luciano.

The one thing I would suggest is to check the fit of the forward life-boats.. they don't even go close to fitting..

And, as always, try and paint the PE before you put it is place, and make sure you get all the sides of the PE, like I didn't this time and had to go and touch up miles of railings..

Did you get the kit with the PE included? One thing I don't like about Hasegawa PE, even though it may be more accurate, is the way you have to bend each individual stanchion's foot.. what a pain and I don't think it looks any better in 1/350 scale than the continuous base most companies use.

Anyway, enough moaning, it is still a nice kit and MOST things fit very well.

Thanks for the info Warren, yes mine is also the high detail kit with the PE and metal gun barrels. I also have the Tamiya Yukikaze Ten-Ichi-Go fit so it'll be interesting to compare the two.

I am waiting to get the Yukikazi at a good price. In the meantime I have a plethora of kits to build, but not all have the PE detail sets I find necessary nowadays..

Good that Trumpeter are finally including fitted railings in their kits now.

Yes, I have done no rigging on the kit, but what rigging could you possibly use in 1/350 scale that is scale thickness?

Now I am back in the saddle the next one on the list is Hasegawa'a IJN Akagi with all the PE, barrels and wooden deck I can throw at it.. Maybe.. :-)

All will be revealed when I start a new blog.

You should give 2lbs. leader material a try, it works well.
I use it for my 1:350 u boats with no problem.

Also strands of synthetic hair extensions...once painted,
they take on a little extra thickness... just right in my opinion.
