Guy's, I'm looking to see if there is enough interest for a World War One campaign.
I've never run a campaign before but would be willing to give it a go, I've had a think about rules but would appreciate feed back. There are a lot of commemorations going on over the past year and next few years covering the 100+1 years since the First world war started and we have seen quite a few kits released in different mediums of WWI subjects.

So here goes:
Any scale, full hull or waterline
Stand alone or diorama
Any class of ship or sub as long as it fits with the other requirements
The vessel must have served during WWI and must be in either a before or during WWI fit. eg you could build HMS Dreadnought in a 1907 or 1915 fit but you could only build HMS Warspite in a 1916-18 fit not a 1943 fit (that make sense?)
Any medium allowed, plastic kit, resin, scratch etc.
Time scale to be decided / up to campaign admin to fit in with other campaigns but should run for at least a year.

Over to you guy's.

Sorry Luciano! Seemed to have missed this one altogether. Certainly an interesting proposal if you ask me. We'll try to keep this thread alive to see if we can drum up any interest and go from there. I know I have to have something in the cave that would fit the part!!

Luciano,

Sorry, I must have missed it myself. I know I don't have anything in the stash that fits this catagory but it gives me an excuse to find one. I'm in depending on the start time. I have to clean the desk of some other campaigns first.

Thanks guy's at least I know I wasn't talking to myself

If we can drum up enough interest I would hope that we start later in the year so it not only gives everyone time to find a suitable subject but also to complete those naval campaigns we are all involved in already.

I have one kit that fits the bill so if the campaign starts later in the year I will enlist.

cheers

In my stash, I have a Zvezda Dreadnought plus the Pontos 1/350 Detail Up Set. According to Pontos, the set is for 1912. So, I guess this can qualify. If only I can build this as fast as Bill Plunk did in his log http://www.bpmodels.net/Model/Album/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=664 That was certainly inspiring.

Welcome aboard all, Jo a Dreadnought sounds good I've been frightened off after watching Bill's build, I'll pick up my Dreadnought maybe next year

Todd is that the 1915 Warspite? I must admit I've not even seen one on the shelves let alone ne built. Either way a 1915 Warspite or the Tiger will be most welcome.

Well if we get the go ahead for me it will be from the Invincible or Tsesarevich, however I do aim to pick up either Kent and/or Glasgow from Kombrig.

Some nice choices yourself there Luciano! One of the kits I have is a Combrig...the Tiger...the other (Warspite) is a Hobby Boss, both 1/700 but I have the rather large Artists Hobby upgrade sets for both...something around 1000 piece each of tiny little bits of brass just waiting for me to lose on the floor!!

Howdy Y'all
What models are out there that fit the bill? I'd be looking for something that is low-cost, injection molded and a pretty decent looking kit when finished.
I just don't build in this era but I like the campaigns.
Thanks,

Hello Don,

There is a tremendous amount of WWI era kits on the market to choose from in numerous scales. First question would be what scale you were looking to work with and maybe we can help narrow down something you might be interested in!

ICM, Revell, Zvezda,Trumpeter, Bronco,Aoshima,Flyhawk and more.

Hi Don, as Todd has posted let us know what scale you prefer and we can then help further.
Any preference on type of ship? Destroyer, Cruiser, Battleship, Battlecruiser or Sub.

Howdy Todd & Luciano
Thank you for the help in advance. The important things to me are:
Price-I would like to keep the price around or under $20.
Injection molded-I figure it's cheaper than resin.
Scale-not as important as to the final size, I would like to keep it smaller, perhaps a 1/700 battlecruiser, 1/350 destroyer or 1/144 sub. I'm open to any type of ship, I tend to like building subs but I don't mind building something else.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

Hi Don,
I don't know the retail prices your side of the pond but the Trumpy 1/700 Dreadnought may fit the bill, unfortunately the only 1/350 destroyers are in resin so they'll be outside your budget. There are some 1/350 resin subs on the market which are cheaper than the destroyers but again not sure on the $ prices. I may be mistaken but I believe there is also a 1/700 Queen Elizabeth in plastic or you may be lucky and find one of the many resin ships on evilbay or the like thats in your budget.

One other option is the 1/350 Revell Emden light cruiser not a bad kit but could do with one of the upgrade sets, as a bonus it's being kitted with the Dresden, two in a box right now.

Thanks Luciano,
How are the Mirage 1/400 kits? They have a WWI German Torpedo Boat. I'd be willing to do one.
Otherwise, it's one of ships you mentioned.

Not aware of the 1/400 torpedo boat but their 1/350 torpedo boat is nice just be aware that their kits are not shake and bake they do require a fair bit of work and even a little bit of scratch building in some cases.

Jay Massey has a review of the V-106 Torpedo Boat here - http://modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/review/3674

And one for a destroyer in the same scale - http://modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/review/3270

Might give a little more insight into the kits for ya!

I think I will have to pass on this campaign. The stash is too big to go buy another model yet I do not have a kit that would fit. Thanks for the information, it is much appreciated. Good luck with the campaign. I've committed to 14 other campaigns but it will be impossible for me to finish all them.
Take care,

Greetings!

Depending upon the time frame, I'd be interested. I have a few kits that would fit nicely.
