I have been building 1:144 Revell Type VIIc/41 boat. I am working on the antenna rigging. I am trying to accomplish something out of the norm trying very much to be historically correct. Not easy trying to find the right material in this scale. Is this old photo accurate in regards to where the antennae cable enters the tower? referring to the two grommets on the lower portion of the tower. Thanks for any help you may provide. Been working on this problem for quite some time.

Hello David,
The paint is looking very good so far.
Well yes...the 2 cables going into the insulators on the tower
casing are definitely historically correct (photo proof)for this
tower but don't use it for reference because this is not U 318
as you are trying to build.
U 318 was a Type VIIC/41 with snorkel....the boat in the photo has no snorkel
or provisions for it and the tower is very different than that of U 318 as seen
in the Revell model.
Could it be U318 before some mods and a snorkel refit?
It seems to be a training boat.
I don't know her exact history but I will look up my references and
get back to you as to how many wires should be going into the tower for U 318,
as you are trying to build her.
Cheers,
Joe

Why does my photo keep on disappearing? here it is again. So this photo looks the same as my model, has the Wintergarten and all? confused right about the snorkel. Maybe put it midline on the tower and call it a day.

Hi David,
Similar tower but not the same as the model.
You will need to add an "insulator cap" or as you called it grommet between the mid and upper splash guard, off center slighty and towards port.
Drill a hole in this cap and run a thin wire from the cap
to the main cable....and your done.
Cheers,
Joe

Hi David,
A small correction:
The "insulator or grommet" should be offset towards starboard.
I see Revell has left off this detail.
Cheers,
Joe

I found a treasure trove of obscure pics unknown to me on this site, plenty of U boat tower wire insulators http://german-uboats.com/Uboat_Photos/
