Hi,
This is a very basic beginner's question. When I want to sand a narrow piece of wood (especially while making bevels) is there any technique (besides a steady hand) to maintain steady angle and flat surface on the sanded piece?
Thank you.

Hi Jay,

First...welcome aboard, both here on the Shipwrights as well as the Kitmakers! Great bunch here all willing to help where and when they can!!

Not knowing what size the piece you are working on, I would say build a quick jig maybe that would allow the piece to be supported well and lets you run a sanding stick at the correct angle you want. You might get a bit more control with a stick or block than by hand. You can also glue sandpaper to a wide variety of shapes using common things on your bench...Popsicle sticks, toothpicks, small pieces of anything really.

Sure one of the other guys will be along with more ideas for you soon! Good luck!!

I'm talking about a 1/4"x1/4" piece.
Thank you.
