I wanted to somehow put the song Sink the Bismarck on here for all you Bismarck modelers to play while working on your ships. I'm not too computer literate and couldn't figure out how to download the song then post it here. So here is the next best thing.

SINK THE BISMARCK
Written by: Johnny Horton and Tilman Franks
Johnny Horton
Capo on first fret.

In [D] May of nine-teen for-ty one the [A] war had just be-[D] gun
The [G] Ger-mans had the big-gest ships that [D] had the big-gest guns
The Bis-marck was the fast-est ship that ever sail-ed the seas
On her decks were guns as big as steers and [A] shells as big as [D] trees.
Out of the cold and fog-gy night came the Brit-ish ship The Hood
And ever' British sea-man he knew and un-der-stood
They had to sink the Bis-marck the ter-ror of the seas
Stop those guns as big as steers and those shells as big as trees.

CHORUS #1
[D] We'll find that Ger-man bat-tle-ship that's [A] mak'in' such a [D] fuss
We got-ta sink the Bis-marck 'cause the [A] world de-pends on [D] us
[G]Hit the deck a-run-nin' boys and [D] spin those guns a-round
When we find the Bis-marck we [A] got-ta cut 'er [D] down.

The Hood found the Bis-marck and on that fa-tal day
The Bis-marck start-ed fir-in' fif-teen miles a-way
We got-ta sink the Bis-marck was the bat-tle sound
But when the smoke had clear-ed a-way the might-y Hood went down.
For six long days and wear-y nights they tried to find her trail
Church-hill told peo-ple put ever' ship a-sail
'Cause some-where on that o-cean I know she's got-ta be
We got-ta sink the Bis-marck to the bot-tom of the sea.

CHORUS #1

The fog was gone the sev-enth day an' they saw the mornin' sun
Ten hours a-way from home-land the Bis-marck made its run
The Ad-miral of the Brit-ish fleet said turn those bows a-round
We found that Ger-man Bat-tle-ship and we gon-na cut 'er down.
The Brit-ish guns were aimed and the shells were com-in' fast
The first shell hit the Bis-marck they knew she could-n't last
That might-y Ger-man bat-tle-ship is just a mem-o-ry
Sink the Bis-marck was the bat-tle cry that shook the sev-en seas.

CHORUS #2
We found that Ger-man bat-tle-ship for mak'in' such a fuss
We had to sink the Bis-marck 'cause the world de-pends on us
We hit the deck a-run-nin' and we spun those guns a-round
Yea! we found that might-y Bis-marck and we had to cut 'er down.

CHORUS #2 (Last line)
Yea! we found that might-y Bis-marck and then we cut 'er down.

Then for fun here are the words to the Homer and Jethro parady version.

SINK THE BISMARCK-No. 2
Recorded by Homer & Jethro
Original words and music by Johnny Horton & Tillman Franks

Way back in nineteen-forty-two or maybe forty-three,
I sailed with Captain Tuna, the chicken of the sea.
We didn't sink the Bismarck, no matter what they say,
For when we seen the German ships, we sailed the other way.

We seen torpedos comin' and we saw a periscope.
We were full of fightin' spirit and our souls were full o' hope.
The captain yelled, "Now hear this!" He really flipped his lid.
We haven't yet begun to fight. What's more, we never did.

CHORUS: Oh, we didn't sink the Bismarck and we didn't fight at all.
We spend our time in Norfolk and we really had a ball,
Chasin' after women while our ship was overhauled,
A-livin' it up on grapefruit juice and sickbay alcohol.

Then they made me a frogman on the demolition team.
I sunk a battleship, a cruiser, and a submarine.
I blew up ammunition dumps. I did my best to please.
I did it all before the Navy sent me overseas.

Tony, our Italian cook, was a-settin' on the deck,
And we were a-peelin' 'taters. We must 'a' peeled a peck.
The captain yelled, "Hey, Tony! Is that a U-boat I see?"
Tony says, "It's not-a my boat; it's-a no belong to me." CHORUS

And now the war is over and our story can be told
About our captain's fightin' and the young ones and the old.
We stayed in San Francisco, away from the battle scenes.
We spent our time on Treasure Island a-fightin' the Marines. CHORUS

I realize the parady is pretty derogatory to US sailors, no offense intended.

Holy Batman HalfYank! Your typing fingers must be tired after all that. Complete with guitar chords to boot! :-)

I'll have to get the Ovation out of the closet, tune it up, and see if I can get my kids to sing the chorus! Who knows, I might even get them to a little.

Tread.
