Cheers Dave,

Your support is very welcome as always.

Should be fun. This is the first Atlantic Models Kit I have attempted, the quality of the casting and the detail is Very "White Ensign" in style, being done by Pete Hall not surprising, so I am not anticipating any big problems along the way.

Cheers.

Thanks Bernd,

This kit is high quality in the casting, very few if any air bubbles (haven't noticed any in critical places) clean, good level of detail. The white metal castings are good too, a full etched set and decals.

Resin Kits of this standard tend not to present many more issues that Injection moulded kits.

Welcome along for the ride.

Cheers

Nice one Si, I'm in on this as I'm close to placing an order for the County class destroyer (for HMS Kent).

I may be tempted to indulge in some other cold war subjects.

Thanks Todd,

It is a well appointed kit. Not much to add except some rigging and a few minor small details.

Looking forward to getting stuck in myself.

Cheers.

Finally got started.

The upper and lower hull sections joined, pretty good fit, except for a few minor gaps and a little short at the bow.

A few swipes with a file sort out the bow, and the gap filled, I used Citadel "Liquid Green Stuff", great stuff comes in the same pots as their paint, can be brushed on, the brush cleaned in water.

Brass rod fitted, at this stage overlength, for the prop shafts.

The brackets need cutting to fit, quite a bit as you can see.

Brackets and rudder fitted.

Side on, showing the join cleaned up.

Cheers.

Hi Warren,

It sand's very nicely, and dries quickly. It's onvy vice is that it shrinks a bit so it may need more than one coat.

Cheers.

Thanks Michael,

I am pleased with the finish, the Halfords primer makes a good base coat over the resin and the Lifecolour Hull Red went over it very nicely, I think also the primer gave that little extra depth.

Cheers.

On with painting the hull.

The lower hull masked.

and sprayed AP507C, not my normal way of doing things, but this a "Baldrick" style cunning plan.

The Hull masked, some of the superstructure too, in some cases the cast on detail made masking tricky to say the least so they will touched in with the good old hairy stick.

The boot topping sprayed in black.

Now this is the cunning bit, the deck sprayed with lifecolour "Semtex Green".

The masking off, the odd touch up needed, but the plan worked pretty well.

Hope to get some brush work done tomorrow.

Cheers.

Superstructure painted in with old hairy stick, it does need a touch up here an there, and a wash to bring out the detail.

Prior to spraying some more of the resin & metal castings the main turrets have been assembled.

also sprayed was the bridge, the window decals were so fragile they disintegrated on contact with water, so the windows had to be painted, the masking on.

Done, and the bridge in place, not perfect, but a touch up will help.

Cheers.

Thanks Todd,

Was an interesting one, there was so much detail cast into the deckhouses and bulkheads I felt I was making more trouble for myself by trying to mask them prior to spraying the deck.

Cheers.

Onwards,

Some of the larger etch constructs need to be assembled prior to painting, Firstly the lattice foremast.

Three of the four sides off the fret, the fourth has to have to the upper and lower yard arms removed.

basic assembly of the mast.

Yard arms and platform going on.

Platform and railings on.

The forward yard arm and ladder on, also solid mainmast kitted out.

More soon,

Si

Thanks Guys,

The lattice mast is almost a kit in itself, but it is well designed, so not as tricky as it looks.

Tempted to try and get hold Pete's kit of her sister HMS Leopard in 1960 fit, with two lattice masts.

Cheers.
