I wonder if this a reissue of Hasegawa's motorized Yamato kit that I built many years ago... Unless you absolutely HAVE to have a Yamato in 1/450th scale, there are many other better quality Yamato kits out there. Assuming that this is the old 1960s-1970s kit I remember, avoid it unless you can pick one up at a garage sale CHEAP.

Especially with no PE set offered as being included. There are wood deck and PE after market sets available for this kit but 1/450 is a bit of an odd scale when so much is in 1/350 now. I think it's Hasegawa trying to get mileage from an old mold.

However the price for such a big barge isn't too bad. I've been looking for a big and cheapish Yamato for a spaceship conversion so this might do nicely !

Will do Michael, I've a lose plan to craft the superstructure onto the hull of a Typhoon (already got the 1/350th Hobby Boss kit) and picked up a 1/750 Yamato to kit bash with but it's too small for the effect I'm after . . . this should do nicely.

Do Hasegawa even do new toolings anymore? All of their new releases I've seen were either olds molds with new deals or parts from 2 or more kits bashed together to make a new variant.

A bit off subject with the space battleships but since it's Yamato-ish on topic- here's an image of my favorite flying Yamato.



I came across this one from Brazilian modeler Celso Ryuji on his Deviant Art site. It's a 1/1000 Bandai kit. It looks (to me) how Yamato would have appeared as she arrived back to Earth after her year long journey as told in the Japanese animated series Yamato 2199.

It's quite a nice kit. From what I've heard Bandai also did a 1/500 version which is supposed to be very big.

Yes there is. I have one made from a 1980's mold but a new kit came out last year (666mm long (26")) that is much more detailed. There's even separate interior component kits available of the hangar bay and engine section. Hobby Link Japan lists if for about €57.00 ($63.00 US).
