So i started a thread last year on this ship and havent worked on her recently due to life getting in the way. I was unable to recover my old account so had to start a new account and a new thread. Here is where she sits now.

Nice clean build.

Now on to the funnels and need to source railings and ladders.

Thank you grant. Its been in the closet hiding for a few months. Im not too sure if the measure 22 is correct for the ship but i read on the internet that at one point she was painted in it early in her life. Thanks for the compliment. Constructive criticism is always welcome. I want to get better.

Thanks Todd. The funnel is so small in 1/350. I hope afer paint some of the finer defects will fill in. Im using this ship as practice for the indianapolis and independence. There is so much photo etch in the indianapolis.

Solid plan there! The Indy is a nice kit...especially with all the bling! I have a good friend planning on tackling one this year as well! Best of luck when she comes about!

Funnels assembled and painted. Also started work on the searchlight platform. I painted the gun director too. I find that building the small assemblies and then adding them to the hull is much easier and breaks up the monatany of cut sand glue paint. Feels like each is a small model.

Small update here. Started working on the aft mast and what i would call the crows nest. This tried my patience.
If anyone has any tips for shaping railings around curves im all ears. I generally make a good mess with glue trying to make neat curves. Some of you gentlemen make railings look like an artform. Progress will be slow till after the holidays. I will post when i can.

I look around for a piece of dowel or plastic/metal tubing that is of a slightly smaller diameter of the platform floor, and gently curve the railing around that. The PE is naturally springy (unless you anneal it first) and will tend to expand slightly, back to the diameter you originally wanted. Play with it a bit until it's the right size, then just tack it on with small spots of CA.

I do the bending pretty much the same way as Biggles proposed - maybe one tip for the objects to bend around - I bought a cheap set of drills, with that I have everything between 2 and 10 mm right at hand, and you can go for the really cheap ones, since you don't need them to be sharp or long lasting

Here is another small update. Some of the finer details and fiddly parts assembled. Word to the wise. When assembling the small 20mm twin cannon, have a good movie or whatever your modeling poison is. Those littlw guys have 9 parts per gun, each part is the size of the god particle, and it needs 8 guns for this ship. On to the pictures.

If i havent before, i will do it now. Im sorry for the quality of pictures. Im using my phone as im not as high tech at the moment. A camera will be a future investment.

Small update here as i have the indy in the works for the cruiser campaign also. Just added some items to the deck after a quick paint. Also painted the tops of the guns. On to the pictures.

Long overdue update to this build. She is getting the smaller details added. Still wish I had bought a photo etch set for her but the kit supplied etch is nice. She builds perfect almost out of the box. I am using veteran models 5" guns though as I had bought two sets for a 1/350 revell New Jersey build. The Veterans are good but the kit guns are almost as good as aftermarket. I really have nothing bad to say about this kit other than the instructions are a bit confusing at times. This is common among dragons ship kits and they need a better layout. The exploded view system that they use is horrible and a lot of things can get missed if one isn't paying close attention.
