Hello Everyone,

I am ashamed to admit that the IJN Maya took a good bit out of me with regards to Cruisers. So I believe I will be dropping out of the Cruiser Campaign.

That being said I am itching to begin a large build, one that is not under a time constraint and that I can take my time with.

I will continue the Guadalcanal Campaign and the Silent Service Campaign but my apologies to Si for bailing on the Cruiser Campaign.

So for my slow large build I wanted to put it to a vote as I have many that I am itching to start but have learned my lesson of trying to build too many at one time (especially all under a time constraint)

So with that I ask for each of you to vote from the following choices:

1941 Fit Hasegawa IJN Nagato with the Flyhawk Gold Medal Edition Super Detail Set.

The Trumpeter USS Yorktown CV-10 with the Pontos Detail Set

The Aoshima Kongo with Flyhawk Super Detail set and Hunter wooden deck

The Fujimi IJN Shokaku. This is the premium set so the PE is included in the kit. The only drawback is it does not include a wooden deck and the molded deck is lacking. For this I wonder if the IJN Ziukaku Wooden Deck would work since they are both the same class of Carrier. If this kit is selected I would need to buy some additional AM kits

and finally the Fujimi IJN Battleship Fuso. Again, this is the premium kit so the PE comes in the kit. I would just need to source a wooden deck.

So the voting window is open. I will tally the votes in a couple of days and once decided the build log will commence.

thanks for your input.

Ok Dave you have me as looking at your list I can't pick only one.
I pick the Kongo as I have that kit in the stash but no AM at the moment, however I also pick the Yorktown as I have the Tico in the stash with only a bit of the AM that I want to add so either would get my vote.

I vote for the Shokaku - I've never seen this one built up (any of the IJN subjects would be good, though)

Very cool battleship with a great PE set. Can't go wrong there.

Having walked the deck of the Yorktown at Patriots Point in Charleston, SC I've always had a soft spot for her. She gets my vote.

Wow - what a bunch of choices! I would go with the Nagato simply because she was the Combined Fleet flagship in December, 1941.

Lots of options. Not many carriers built recently here so Yorktown or Shokaku would be good and I have Nagato and the Flyhawk set so it would be interesting to watch that.

What ever floats will be interesting after watching your Maya build.

cheers

As a perpetual lurker with a meagre 3 ships in the stash my vote probably holds less sway, but I agree with Michael on this one. Slight lean towards Yorktown.

Whichever kit wins the day I will once again be lurking and learning.

Gents,

Thanks for the votes so far and helping me. Truth be told I want to crack all of them out and begin building them now so your helping me out by voting, oh and Damien your vote carries as much weight as anyone.

Voting is not closed but the tally so far is:

Nagato - 3 votes

Yorktown - 4 votes

Shokaku - 3 votes

Kongo - 1 vote

Fuso - 0 votes (interesting)

I included everyone's vote in the tally, even those that voted for a couple of ships. This might have to go for a tie breaker or at least another vote with a narrower selection list...LOL

stay tuned and we will see how the voting continues

looking to crack open the selected kit on 1 JAN 16

Hi Dave,

No need to apologise, I do understand. There is no point going for a build that you just aren't in the mood for. After all we do this for fun,

By they by I would vote for Yorktown.

I do have an ulterior motive, as I have the same in my stash, except I intend to convert her into Intrepid, (or as close as I can get her) and any tips on the kit and the Pontos upgrade would be useful before I start.

Cheers

Si

Si, you are correct, we do this for the fun and our love of naval history...even with the sporadic periods of PE frustration...LOL

The voting is not closed yet but it does appear that the Yorktown has taken the lead with Si's vote.

That being said, lets see if anyone else would like to cast a vote between now and 5pm Eastern time.

I do appreciate your votes as your helping me decide which kit to build. Make no mistake, if I had the time I would start each of them right now.

ahh decision decision decisions!!!

thanks gents, lets see what the last few hours brings.

I'd love to see you have a go at the Fuso. Her eloquent lines and pagoda style mast are visually intriguing and will stand out from any other models she'll be displayed with.

The Fuso also has historical significance as she was Japan's first entry into the global "super-dreadnought" arms race that started with the HMS Orion.

Just my two cents. I know whatever you build will be a feast for the eyes (and my growing inferiority complex).

Dave i think Fuso needs some support !
These upgrade Fuso class battleships with their huge pagodas are so darn ugly, a perfect head turner

Bernd,

I was wondering when someone was going to throw a votes towards the Fuso..LOL

I agree, the bridge for the IJN Fuso and the Yamishiro are incredibly ugly to look at but incredible at the same time.

I am looking forward to building her soon

Thanks for voting my friend

Happy New Year!!

Troy,

I apologize as I did not see your post earlier. As I mentioned earlier you and Bernd have a good point regarding the FUSO. The towering bridge structure is amazing and I am itching to build her sometime soon.

Your vote makes it two for the Fuso. Regarding inferiority complex, don't be silly. I myself feel like a novice building amongst giants on Model Shipwrights. The work you guys do is amazing and really the reason that I put this build to a community vote.

I was ready to close the vote but there are some builders that have abstained so far so I am hoping that Russell E, Jan, and Warren will voice their vote soon.

In either case the vote stands as follows:

Nagato - 3 votes

Yorktown - 5 votes

Shokaku - 3 votes

Kongo - 1 vote

Fuso - 2 votes

The USS Yorktown leads the pack at this point. I have cracked her open to take a glance along with the Pontos upgrade kit and it is a little intimidating. A challenge I am ready to accept.

I will hold the final decision until waking tomorrow morning to see if others will vote.

More to follow so stay tuned.

Dave

First of all a happy new year to you and all the best for 2016 - to you and all our fellow modellers!!

I've been hiding out in the countryside, right next to the shores of the North Sea, and enjoyed some days partly even without Internet - pretty nice for a change

So that's why I haven't been participating here during the last days. But now it's time to slowly return to normality....

Well, having never built a carrier myself and eagerly awaiting the release of a 1/350 carriers this year, perhaps even a RN one, my votes are with the two carriers, if you allow me to votes. If I have to choose one, I'd go with the Yorktown, partly for the Pontos set of which I have a few but have not cracked open one yet...

Cheers,

Jan

Jan,

Happy New Year and welcome to 2016. Hiding out in the country side sounds like a great idea, would love to do that myself.

Thanks for the final vote which makes it official.

The USS Yorktown is the decided build.

Thanks everyone for your votes. I will start today.

Happy New Year!!!
