What would be the most common order to fire torpedoes, in German? I think it's "Torpedo loss", but I'm not sure , and also not sure of the spelling. Are there any umlauts or sharp s's involved?

If it's not too late, I think the command would generally include the tube used:
"Rohr eins los!" for tube no. 1, "Rohr zwei los!", "Rohr drei los!" and "Rohr vier los!" for tubes 2, 3 and 4...

I concur with Nicolas. As far as I have read they always said the tube number not to mix up the different torpedoes (exept there is just one last torpedo left). It was also common to call the torpedos "fish". So this way you can also say in German "Fisch Rohr 1 los!"

Thanks. "Torpedo...los!", will do nicely for my purposes.

Do they use 'Zwei' or the phonetic 'Zwo' (which was invented because 'zwei' and 'drei' rhyme too closely)?

Lee I think both are correct in the german language and I dont think they invented "zwo" in order not to mistaken "zwei" with "drei".

Hi Biggles,
not much to add here - 'Torpedo los' or 'Torpedos los' (plural) is quite common for submarines, and as Thomas points out, you can call the number of the tube as well.
However, you would say 'zwo' instead of 'zwei' in the Navy, that's how they taught us in bootcamp many years back. And to the best of my knowledge the 'zwo' was indeed created to prevent mismatching 'zwei' and 'drei'.
Cheers,
Jan
