Hi Kev,
I'm not having any luck in searches either. Could these Danton floats be a small version of the Carley float? The Carlies look like rafts with webbing or wooden flooring and come in many sizes and were used on all types of vessels in both world wars. Or could the Dantons be some kind of cushion used as a personal flotation device?
Best of luck in your search.
John

where are you getting your information from about 3 feet square and on ships... what era of ships? are you looking at a part of a model, or a reference photo? I did a google search and found no results at all!!! I almost wonder if the spelling is different ?

Thanks for the interest guys
I have blurred / poor pics of these on WWII Fairmile D. I have read that they were used on capital ships as well.
Names I have come across Danton, Spanner and Box raft.
Description taken from Admiralty Manual of Seamanship 1951
" It is a solid box-shaped float made of expanded rubber and covered with plywood. Each float is fitted with a painter and a life-line becketed around the outside "
Behind left elbow
Above cowl vent
To right of life ring
Cheers
