Does anyone make a 1/72 Kriegsmarine naval ensign? I screwed up my Revell one and would like a replacement.

Do you want an original decal or a paper replacement?

Hi Joe. I'm looking for a decal for the SBoot I bought from you. The problem is that I used lead foil for the flag, primed it, and applied the decal and used Micro Set. When thoroughly dry and set, I GENTLY curled the flag as if it was waving in the wind. The primer (Tamiya) cracked and so did the decal. I tried re-touching with paint but the cracks are still visible. This is the first time this has happened. Do you think it would have been better without primer? Maybe the decal was old? Maybe Revell's decal film is thicker and less flexible than other companies? The decal sheet says "made in Italy", but I don't think by Cartograf.

I don't use the foil method....all my KM ships have ensigns that
I make.

That being said, I have the decal sheet for the S boat that I will eventually build so you are more than welcome to have the
decal ensign, I can cut it out and give it to you.

Just let me know and we will meet up at the HS.

I don't want to ruin another decal. Do you think it was the cracked primer that caused the decal to also crack? I will try different approaches with the rest of the Revell decal sheet first, to see what happens.

I really can't tell about the cracked primer. I have never used the foil method.

I prefer to print ensigns on paper, fold them over a string and attach them to the mast.

While the glue is still wet, I form the ensign as if waving in the wind.

Again, if you want the decal ensign or a paper one, just let me know.

Cheers,
Joe

Hey Biggs...if you experimentation does not work out...Archer does carry the 72nd scale ensigns - http://www.archertransfers.com/AR72007.html

Another viable option would be Accurate Model Parts (AMP) as they did carry 1/72 cloth versions at one time.

Great! Thanks Todd. I knew Archer made 1/35 ensigns, but was unaware of the 1/72. If I knew that 2 days ago I would have ordered it with the rivets. Mr. Archer is making some money from me this month!

Oh...that is unfortunate. You're not the only one...done that a few time myself! I would use the "contact us" option on their website and ask Woody (owner) if he can catch it before it goes out....just a thought.
