I'm finally trying to make the HMS Warspite. It lists Humbrol Color #78 for the deck color around the superstructure and such. According to my info #78 is "Matte Cockpit Green", I guess similar to the light green in US aircraft interiors. This doesn't really sound right. I'm guessing this is supposed to represent the anti slip coating on certain decks but I thought that was a blue gray. Any suggestions on what MM or Tamiya color to use as a substitute? None of my cross references show Humbrol #78.

My cross reference says that's olive drab. The Imperial war Museum's replica has dark green decks-perhaps this was to show the semtex anti slip covering

Hmmm... looks dark greenish gray to me, almost like Tamiya's RLM gray, which is a greenish gray.

Thanks for the input and that site.

Mike, I just got back from my LHS where I checked out Humbrol #78. I don't know what you would call it but it certainly isn't Olive Drab. Looks like a very greenish grey, lighter than the RLM Gray from Tamiya but NOT Olive Drab. I'm going to play around with a few colors.

Thanks

Humbrol has changed its paint numbering system since the Airfix Warspite went into production, and Airfix has never revised its instructions. Thus, the paint references in the instructions bear no relation to current Humbrol paint colors.

If you want the correct, accurate colors for your Warspite, you'll want to use our Colourcoats enamels. As someone else suggested, you'll find more info on our website. If you have specific questions about her colors, feel free to e-mail me directly.

Cheers,
John Snyder
