Hi Warren -

missed out on your substantial update, ups - spending too much time with real-life stuff these days. That has to change...

Great progress and fast for that very special kit!! This is really looking awesome so far!!

As for the railings, as Marcus said, there are no instructions!! I have not build the kit yet, but sure enough have it in the stash along with the Dragon railings and on getting it of course did a thorough inspection of what I got. It is mentioned somewhere that it was assumed sufficient to provide the generic drawing on the back of the railing set to help you along...that was when I had my first doubt on the usability of those Dragon railings and went for the WEM set as well...

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks everyone. That is what I feared was the problem. Looks like it is time to use the WEM set...

Hi Warren,

First, some great progress, I like how you use the multi compartment plastic boxes to keep everything organized. Im stealing the idea.

Im sure that you can compare the WEM and Dragon PE, find the duplicates and work out what goes where through elimination. Will take some good organization no doubt though.

Good Luck,
Bryan

I had a quick try at that the other day and none seem to match up!

Thanks everyone.

I bit the bullet and started using the WEM railings which are much more scale looking than the rather crappy Dragon ones. But I degress as I have a few more progress pictures..

I have also,

Drilled out all the portholes in the hull.
Painted the upper hull.
Painted the boats.
Painted the decks ready for the wooden bits.

And that's about it.

Cheers
Warren

Yes Jan, real life is very over-rated, or I like to think of it as non-modelling life.. something you have to do to allow you to have a modelling life.

A quick update..

The light has just switched on at the end of the build tunnel.

Finished...

Sorry but I can't really recommend this kit if you actually want to enjoy the build and not have it turn into hard yakka.

Cheers

Warren,

very nice work, excellent paint finish.

I have to disagree with your remarks about not recommending the ship. I built this kit and found it a challenging kit but enjoyable. It is very well designed and when finished is in my opinion one of the best looking kits on the market.

Wow - I'm speechless....

What a splendid build in such a short time, clean and crisp, outstanding work!! Congratulations to commissioning her!!

One question though - did you omit the props, or is there simply one pre-finish shot dropped in, or...?

Anyway, really great work, Warren!
As for recommending the kit, I can't talk about it before I've built myself...and I will - earlier or later...

Cheers,
Jan

Another very fine addition to the Inman fleet, Warren!

Amazing build speed considering the amount of hard yakka required (somehow I don't think this kit will find its way into my stash )

one question though-have you removed the blue masking tape from the stern?

Great job Warren,

Have to agree with Mark, I did find the kit a challenge, but overcoming it was very satisfying.

Knocked him a quicker than I did, and bit neater finish too.

cheers

Fantastic build Warren! and like others, seriously impressed by the speed of construction given the complexities of the kit.

What's up next?

cheers

Hi Michael.

Not sure what is next yet but I have to finish the jinxed Alabama before the next one.

Great shipbuilding Warren, and so fast.

Sorry it wasn't the best kit but the final result must be satisfying.

Thanks for sharing,

The Scharnhorst is a great subject in 1/350.
It's just a shame that Dragon were the ones who did it.
I'd have much preferred a more simplified build,
This one has a part-count higher than that of a breathalyzed alcoholic.
Oh, and beware the mistake-laden instructions - Watch out for those bloopers!
I'm going to print out multiple scanned copies and annotate them to death - just in case!
