Part way through Bronco's 1/35 Type XXIII and have been using this very helpful blog - http://modelshipwrights.kitmaker.net/forums/204973&ord=&page=1 - but, unfortunately, there are a lot of images missing.
My question relates to the anodes on the hull sides. Are the sections marked in the below pic anodes too or something else?



If they are anodes, would they have the same mounting brackets as the others?

Any help gratefully received.

Hi Gary,

As you can see in this photo, these look more like hull vents
than anode bars.

They are anodes, not vents.



AFIK, they were just screwed to the hull. Al

That area of the stern is outside of the pressure hull, but still inside the outer hull, and would therefore require some kind of flooding/clearing vents somewhere. The shape of the pressure hull follows the line of those "objects".
My conclusion would be that they are indeed vents/slits.

I agree with Al; it isn’t easy to tell for sure, but the shapes appear to stand proud of the hull, and they are the right size and shape to be anodes...

Does seem to support the anode theory rather than vents.

Unfortunately, I did start removing detail and cutting the hull on the first response. My own fault for not cross-referencing I'm going with the anode idea and have mnanaged to replace the detail - fortunately it was only one side affected....

There is a vent aft of the conning tower on the upper hull. IIRC the kit supplies a piece of PE to represent it. I used a street grate from a Miniart diorama accessories set to better represent it.

That vent will be hard to spot down there, but it looks like a real vent!

It's on top of the hull so in plain sight.
