Is Tamiya Hull Red an appropriate color for a modern US Navy ship?

Thanks. Ive seen plenty of pics, but all vary slightly and look a lot lighter than the XF-9 in the bottle. once I get the paint, Ill spray a few scraps pieces to compare.

There is alot to take into consideration for the "exact" color. Its in the eye of the beholder as to the shade used although there will always be an exact color paint used out of a shipyard today. However, wartime constraints sometimes places that a little murkey. Is there enough paint to give it the correct color, or do they have to add something else just to get enough paint to cover the ship? Not everyone had unlimited resources, so depending on your ship and time, things may change.

But, to give you an answer, yes.

Back in the 90's I was at a Vietnam veterans picnic where an M1 Abrams, M2 Bradley, and a Humvee were on display,all 3 were painted desert tan and all 3 were subtly, but noticeably different shades of the color. I should add, all 3 vehicles were test articles from TACOM ( I live in the Detroit area where they are based) and were in very good shape so i don't know how much of a factor age and exposure was on the paint. The lesson I learned was that even in real application the same color doesn't always match perfectly.

For what it's worth Tamiya Hull Red is formulated to match IJN WWII anti-fouling and is different than modern USN Antifouling, which is initially brighter. That said, the points about variation are valid and antifouling does discolor and "Weather" with use (generally I see it get lighter and more pale though). All depends on your preferences as the builder.

No you didnt, I was an 11BC2 at one time and I'm still on active duty

Thanks for that. As for me, and as far as I know, the army re-classed my MOS, and got rid of my old MOS.
