Wood Ship Building
Posted: Wednesday, July 05, 2017 - 11:01 PM UTC
Is a wood ship building build log allowed. I realize that the builds in this site are mostly plastic or resin. I have an old Billings Boats Bluenose kit hanging around for eons and once I have finished the campaigns I have enlisted in I would like to build the Bluenose.I would probably start in September if there are no objections.

I would love to see your build on this site.

That would be fun to watch. There are a couple of guys that have done (are doing) wood ship blogs. would recommend doing it on Model Shipwrights.

I think any blog would be a welcome addition! Would really like to see your blog on constructing a wood model.

Thanks for the support. I will be starting the build in September.

I am going to start the build shortly. The first thing I will need to make is the slipway to build it on. Pictures will many.

Can't wait to see your posts! I'd like to ask, though, where do you plan on hosting your photos? I've been using Photobucket for quite some time, but they've suddenly up and stopped allowing hotlinking to 3rd party websites (well, unless you pay an exorbitant fee).

I did not think about that but it is a good idea. Since Photobucket is off the list does anyone have suggestion as to a free or less costly web hosting program to use? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Darrell,
Why not use the photo hosting this site provides you.
I have been using it for years with no problems.

Hi guys,
I have found that I've maxed out my photo storage capability here on the Kitmaker network (which is why I went out a 3rd party site). It seems that Kitmaker only allows about 10 MB of storage, and I've used up that allocation.
Here's a link I found yesterday, that suggests some alternative sites to PB. The whole article is interesting, and so are the comments. I'm also posting this link in my blog here on MSW (Build blog of Heller's HMS Victory). If you try any of these alternatives, please post your experiences & recommendations. Thanks!
And before I forget, I'm wondering if anyone has mentioned this to the editorial staff? I'll try and do that today.

Just an FYI.
You can get more photo storage space on the site.
You need to subscribe @ $3.49 a month.

Thanks, Harry. How much space does that price get?

500 MB
Just go to your settings and you can subscribe there.
I also cut down my picks too 800x600 saves a lot of space.

Thanks for the suggestions people. I will choose the one that suits me best. It was also suggested to use Google Photo as well.

Imgur has been mentioned over at Armorama in discussions about PB's new "business" model. There is also a plug-in to browsers that can be used to bypass PB's blocking.
Since this plug-in needs to be in the viewers browser it can't be applied centrally so each and every person who wants to view Your pictures would have to install it. Using something else than PB for your images sounds like a wise plan.
It will be interesting to follow your build. My personal experience of Billing Boats is that some of the wood they use should be replaced by other material (harder/denser wood or thin plywood). Slightly harder to cut and work with but there is less broken parts and the finishing becomes easier.

Thanks for the tip about PB. I have just started the build. I made a slipway? and a copying saw table. Most of the parts on this kit need to be cut out and sanded to shape. I will hopefully post pictures this weekend.

Here is the start of the build as well as my work area.
