I thought I would share my build of a 1/35th scale battleship turret. This is modeled mostly after the Austrått Fort turret that was used for coastal artillery. As I'm understanding, this turret was removed from the Battleship Gneisenau

"Supposedly," this turret would have been used for the German P1000 Landkreuzer Ratte.

Obviously I've modified some things as if it were to be mounted on a massive tank. Rails, ladders, removal on the center gun, addition of a hypothetical radar/range finder, et cetera.

The opening to my paint booth is about 33 inches.

Very unique.

I am presuming scratch-built.....Great work.

Hi Harry,

Yes, this is scratch built (that's a Paper Panzer Productions radar/range finder on top). 1/8th and 1/16th sheet styrene, brass sheet, various wire, Shapeways for the curved "vents," and a gentleman in the UK turned the barrels.

Eventually, this will sit on top of my (mostly) scratch Ratte.

That is pretty amazing as it thought of it being mobile on land. Did they transplant the whole supporting mechanism or just the gun turret?

cheers

I imagine that they would have heavily modified all the mechanical workings under the shell of the turret. Consider that the big turrets were 4-5 stories (including the turret).
