Hi Everyone,

I have received from Jim, the Kruzenshtern, a Russian Four-Masted Barque.

I will be building the kit on the site.

If you are interested Jim has done a review on You Tube link below:

I have been looking at the kit, it is a good quality kit. I checked the price on-line $72.00 not a bad price for what’s in the box and this is a large ship a 21-inch hull. I will be replacing the sails and ratlines and making my own. The LHS here carries a large variety of wooden ship building parts(Colpar‘s), a great plus for me. A real plus, the wood deck planks are too scale. I will also replace the anchors, nothing wrong with the plastic ones, I just like brass anchors level of detail.
We will see how this goes, as the last time I build a sailing ship was many years ago the Revell Constitution.

This will be a long project.

A little slow to start with, until after are IPMS High Plains show as I need to put the final touches on other models ready for the contest and get all the kits priced.

First off, the hull, I will be drilling out all the portholes and inserting clear styrene.

Following along with interest Harry

Zvezda is one of the few model companies making new IM styrene sailing ship kits so will be good to see how she builds up.

Thanks Guys.

Russell, a friend is working on the 1/72 Zvezda Black Pearl.

That is a very nice model.

I have looked, but can not find a wooden deck for this kit.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

I could use a generic 1/200 decking, but with all the raised detail on the plastic parts, it would be a nightmare.

Thanks

I thought Artwox had some blanks of wood deck they sold. Might be something there to source! Painting is still and option. There are a few techniques to getting the painted version to look pretty close to credible.

Reminds me....I probably could bang out a thread on a commission I'm working on....the Pearl!

Thanks Todd, I have the generic blanks.

If you are interested I did find the Wooden Deck and Cloth Sails for the 1/72 Zvezda/Revell Pearl...Yes I ordered them. Looked pretty nice in the photos

Nice...I would give those blanks a try if you have them.

I did pick up the cloth sails for my Pearl. I opted to paint the decks instead of the wood add-on. Mine will be weathered pretty well, figured the extra step of adding the wood might not be needed.

I will try and get something posted soon.

Been working on drilling out the portholes and the other items.

I just think in 1/200 clear plastic porthole will look better than painted black plastic.

It’s a holiday weekend time to BBQ!!!
