I apologize in advance for this one guys...

I was in South Carolina a few years ago, and was intrigued by the story of DD724 USS Laffey that sits next to the Yorktown in Patriot's Point. I read a book on it, and did some additional research. I want to do a dio of the ships damage, and need help on discerning where certain stations were.

For instance, I know that mounts #51, 52 and 53 are the 5in guns 1, 2, and 3. but how can I find out where "Group 21 of the 20mm guns" or "mounts 40 and 41 of the 40mm battery" would be in the ship?

haha! I told you I was sorry. I just thought that I'd toss this out there and see what happens. If there's a site or book that has a blueprint or scematics or something.

Thanks, and please don't hate me!

As you figured from the numbering of the 5" mounts, the second number is the mount's position from the bow going aft. In the Navy numbering system for compartments, odd last numbers are portside of centerline, moving outward. Even numbers are starbord side of centerline moving outward, and "0" is on the centerline. I don't know the layout of the Laffey's guns, but it seems like they wouldn't use two different locateing systems when one would do the job.
I read one book on the Laffey years ago that had pictures and drawings in the back that showed the positions and times of the bomb and Kamikaze hits. She was a tuff and luckey little "'can."

Thanks BlueBear! I'll go off of that. I think that I have seen that book off of some of the links on the Laffey I've found. I'll look into that too. Thanks again!
