Like many ship modelers of my generation, I have an affection for these old Revell Essex-class kits of my childhood. It is good to see the "Mighty O" back in circulation again!

Both the re-issue of the Renwal Shangri-la and Revell Germany USS Hornet sold very well. In fact trying to find one now you'll be paying at least twice the original cost. So this is very welcome. With the after market decals and islands you can do any of the ships. Very welcome and they remain the only game in town in styrene.

Okay, show of hands. Who bought and built this as a kid, just because of the box art?

This coincides perfectly with Model Monkey's soon to be released 3D printing of the island!

Here is a list of 3D-printed Essex class modernized SCB-125 islands presently available in 1/530 scale intended for the Revell Essex kits (click the colored text to see the product):
USS Yorktown CVS-10USS Intrepid CVS-11USS Ticonderoga CVA-14USS Randolph CVS-15USS Lexington CVT-16USS Oriskany CVA-34USS Shangri La CVA-38And for those who want to convert their Revell kit to its Korean War-era straight-deck configuration (yes, they sell!), an earlier SCB-27 island for
USS Yorktown CV-10 (1953) is available.
And yep, I bought several Revell Essex class kits as a kid. The box art rocked.
Cheers!
