Since those kind of guns were fairly similar in appearance and proportion, why not state the actual length of the model gun in mm's so that a larger-bore gun in smaller scale could also be used for a smaller-bore gun in a larger scale. As long as the barrel length is similar (on the respective models) a large gun barrel in smaller scale could pass for a lighter gun barrel in larger scale.

That's a good idea. I'll add those dimensions to the product descriptions this week. The one feature that could look noticeably out of scale when substituting cannons of one scale for another, is the small raised part containing the "touchhole", the place where the cannon was fired. That area is generally the same size across guns no matter the size of the gun. A purist would notice, but perhaps it is not a problem for most purposes. You are correct in stating that the proportions are similar, not ecat, but close enough for a layman's eye.
