Tru-Color Paint is in the planning stages of developing military paint sets for the modeler. We have about 30 potential sets we could assemble on the drawing board and have produced mock-up art work for all the sets. Our intent is to release 4-6 of these sets at the IPMS National Convention in August of this year. We are requesting the modeler's input as to which of these sets YOU would like to see.

There will be a poll (or survey) on our website by the end of March showing all of the proposed sets with their composition. We will let you know when the poll is posted on the website so you can vote on the sets we should produce. All military and related areas will be represented - armor, air forces, ships, diorama, figures and detailing and covers the U.S. and Israeli paints (these are the colors currently produced and ready to place into the sets).

If you wish to get a jump start on the survey, we can email you a Acrobat file of the description of each set along with their contents. Just let us know if this is wanted by email, this thread or call us.

How many manufacturer's request YOUR input on what they should place into production ? Tru-Color Paint listens to our customers and want to be your go to company for accurate, easy to use paint for your models, dioramas, figures, etc.

The major naval colors, like the USN 5-H or 5-N or 5-O. You could run the major colors, it always hard finding shades of paints and exact colors, having dedicated high quality would make a lot of us modelers.

I agree. I always see paint sets for Army Camo, German Camo, planes, dioramas, Warhammer 40k, and more Army camo. having a dedicated set for Naval colors would be amazing.

Norman, Charlie & Others:

On the proposed military paint sets list that will be posted by the end of March on our website there are actually 8 different U.S. Naval ship camouflage sets designated by Camouflage Measures # and dates of use. For example set 10801 is for Measures 1, 2 and 3 for the early 1941 era, set 10802 is Camouflage Measures 4 & 5 and covers the early 1941 era and contains the paint for the Bow Wave design, set 10805 is for Camouflage Measures 16, 21 and Modified 21 and covers 1942 to the end of the war and contains the paint for the "Blue Period". All other sets specify the Camouflage Measures and years. There is also a Pre-War U.S. Naval set.

This way a modeler can choose a set to paint a specific camouflage scheme and period. Some even have the Anti-Fouling Red, Polished Bronze (for the propellers) and the Boot Black to complete the entire model.

Obviously this is something you would like to see so after we post the survey, tell us which sets are the most wanted. Our intent is to produce what is of the most interest to the modeling community so spread the word to your clubs when the time comes.

We forgot to mention that we already have the 5-H Haze Gray, # TCP-1003, the 5-O Ocean Gray in the early 1941 color (TCP-1018) and the late 1941 version (TCP-1006) plus the Navy Blue 5-N # TCP-1007. All of these and all of the U.S. Navy gray and Blue colors from 1939-1945 are available from us NOW. We even have 2 versions (A and C) of the 5-S Sea Blue. All of these colors were matched to the Short & Snyder color chips supplied by Randy Short.

All of the Tru-Color Paint product line is stocked in 1 oz. (30 ml) and 2 oz. (60 ml) size bottles and may be purchased from your favorite hobby shop, online store or from us directly.

No pressure here. I know what it is like to build a model now. Had not built a model for over 50 years (I did not stutter - I am 72) and decided we should have models at the IPMS convention showing our paint. Well I started with 3 F-4C Phantoms to build and paint in 3 different schemes. It is now approaching 2 months and I have the wings on 2 of them and very little paint. The nose (black), engine nacelles (titanium) and the lower rear (aluminum) is done.

I have a new appreciation what military modeling is. I am a model railroader for nearly 40 years and locos and boxcars are no way near as difficult as the models I have been putting together. My hat is off to EVERY modeler - beginner, intermediate and expert who tackles any armor, ship or airplane model - no matter what scale !

Anyway, good luck on the build of the ship and let us know what how you like the Tru-Color Paint. When you are ready to spray suggest 28-35 PSI with a medium tip and if you want to add thinner, TCP-015, use only 10-20% of the thinner for the paint.

Awesome, I’d also like to see the other navies, IJN has been covered by lifecolor but UK and DKM isn’t that well covered in sets, if it was me I’d also do larger anti-fouling red in the major navies in larger bottles of this is the direction of the sets, you can purchase a red for the hull, then the desired set, the hull is always a consistent in the ship community, if you’re building 4 USN ships for Leyte gulf then that’s four ships that need red. Save from having to buy 2-3 bottles of anti fouling

I'd love to see a "yellow wings set for USN and USAAC aircraft during the interwar periods-- to my knowledge, nobody has marketed such a set. But it's a big hassle to scrounge up colors like "Chrome Yellow" or USAAC yellow for the top wings (they differed between services), doped silver (lower wing surfaces) and light sea gray (Navy) or Dark green gloss (Army) for these aircraft. Also the color of the stripes and bands ranged from gold to bright blue, etc.

And-- with the burgeoning WWI aircraft market-- what about all those aircraft colors form WWI, ranging from chromate green to silver dope, to PC-10 and PC-12, Dark greens, purples, unpainted linen, French blue, etc.? Those would likely fly off the shelves if they could be packaged by nationality, say Italy, France, Germany, and Great Britain.
