That is very generous of you but I think I am going to go with my scratch built version. It not look the best but I am quite proud of it and once painted up etc I think it will look rather nifty

Well I had what can only be called a "minor" set back. Primed the hull over the weekend. Waited it all to dry, masked off and did the various colours, waiting to dry and cure fully between sprays.

And then this happened at the very end:



To say I was not happy is an understatement.

I was trying a new primer, Mission Models white primer. I can only think something went wrong with the primer OR the primer did not like the trumpeter plastic because while attempting to fix the peel the paint just started flaking off. In the end I spent about 90 minutes stripping the entire hull back to bare plastic with a rudder breaking off being the only casualty.

Hull has been reprimed with my regular primer which is now drying and which I have never had an issue with.

Wow. That sucks!

I am sure some very choice words were said that cannot be repeated in polite company.

As Captain Haddock would say "Billions of bilious blue blistering barnacles"

In all honesty, as irked as I was I was actually relieved that it happened on the hull which is fairly flat and detail free. Can you imagine it happening on the superstructure!

Having a paint failure like that really is painful set back. Glad to hear you were able to correct it. I plan on trying out the Mission Model primer on my Mushasi model, hope I don't suffer the same failure.

What happened to your paint is really bad, good to hear that you were able to recover and damage was not too big.

Not nearly as much done this weekend (well the whole week if I am honest) as I was binge watching Battlestar Galactica

I was able to get some paint down the Roberts though and this time it turned out a wee bit better.



Hull is done and has been Futured. Superstructure has the basic colours down. Deck colour is down and I have broken out the brush and started on the various bits and bobs that's clutter the deck. Superstructure is still dry fitted. Will only glue it down once painting and railings are complete.

She is starting to come together rather nicely.

Rory, it's good to see you recover from the paint mishap!

Nothing so gut wrenching as seeing all your hard work go to waste because the paint lets you down!

Roberts is looking great!

Spent the week working on the finicky bits which I always hate doing. She is starting to come along nicely now.



Just the carly rafts left to do of the finicky bits. Superstructure is glued down now and everything has a basecoat on. Will detail paint, Future the upper works and do my washes to bring out the detail.

Then its onto masts, railings, boats and derricks/cranes.

I apologize for the lack of posts on this and my Missouri build. 2 facts have lead to this.

1. The main reason has been work. Things have gotten absurdly busy and my hobby time has been dramatically cut over the last 6 weeks or so. Unfortunately it looks to be staying that way till at least mid August.

2. I got bitten by the armour bug again so what building I have done has been AFV orientated.

I know this is a fairly common happenstance but didnt want everyone to think I had abandoned the forum

So its been a year since there was any activity on this build but I am happy to say that she is done. Not sure why I left her on the slip way for so long but part of it was I thought there was more to do on her.

When I actually came back to the build I found it was mostly done. Just some odds and ends and railing to attach and some painting.

A few hours over the weekend and she was done

So without further ado I give you HMS Roberts. I am very happy with how she came out in the end!

She is looking mighty sweet, a fine finish. Glad to see you finished and commission her. Really digging the detail and fixtures on her decks, she really looks like she means business.

I have gone back and touched up some of the areas the pics showed up, most notably that nasty smudge on the barbette.

Now to finish off my other shelf queens....
