I'm still awaiting HMS Nelson/Rodney in 1/350 though!

The 1/350 Scharnhorst is a large kit, just over two feet. I can't not feel that these 1/200 kits are catering to the well to do modeler with room to spare to show off these builds. I can't afford spending 300 - 500 dollars on a kit and it upgrades let alone the room to display it.

A 1/350 Nelson or Rodney would be nice.

Yep still waiting for the 1/350 Nelson and Rodney (I'll only get one but not sure which), Littorio and a post refit Renown, come on Trumpeter you have the hull as you did the Repulse.

Regarding the 1/200, these look nice but are just too big for my home, only two BB's interest me in this large scale the Littorio and Scharnhorst so now I'm tempted Think I may have to sell the sofa and sit on the floor to make room though or just rip out the kitchen, who needs food and drink?.

Although they would need a new hull for the post refit Renown as the hull bulges were somewhat different.

1/200 is not for me though, it basically kills: my budget; my time; and my shelf space. 1/200 Titanic = 1.35m!

Will be more impressed if Trumpy finally deliver on the 1/350 Rodney/Nelson

Just to be the Devil's Advocate, sometimes it's nice to have just one super-sized, super-detailed model of a ship that you really, really like on display - like on a mantle-piece. But certainly not a whole fleet!

1/200 Scharnhorst - Tick, with some searching will be about £200 . Just like the WNW 1/32 Lancaster - Do I want one? - yes I do , can I afford it ? , I want it , no one else will go without - so yes.
Simples - where to put it ? Somewhere - its the build that's the joy - the end result is just a bonus.

Honestly, I have so many projects in queue that if NO more new models were ever released, I'd still have enough to keep me occupied for the rest of my days.

That said, I remain as excited as ever to see new releases become available!

In fact, I've promised her indoors not to add any more to the stash until I've finished at least half of them... unless of course Rodney/Nelson are released... cough cough!

I'd be happy if Trumpeter reverted back to releasing full hull 1/700 ship models. I absolutely hate waterline kits. Does anyone know why they made this change?

Bill: Trumpeter "reverting back" to full hull in 1/700 assumes that Trumpeter ever made full hull in 1/700. If they did I sure do not recall any.

What they did do is originally make two part hulls in 1/350, and within recent history, say five to seven years, have done nothing but full hull in that scale. The two part hulls are still produced in 1/350, but everything recent is all full hull.

I am in the middle. I like the option, I just don't like the seams.

AFAIK, 1/700 has always been a "waterline" scale - Tamiya is a case in point, and they didn't give you an option. Trumpeter (and Flyhawk) are also waterline models, but with a lower hull piece option. But I also agree with the seam if you want to build full-hull - and sometimes there is a noticeable difference in width between upper and lower hulls to address.

I guess I'm the 10%. I absolutely love the 1/200 scale! I am lucky enough that now all the kids are out of the house I have and entire room dedicated to my hobbies. Currently working on the Missouri with the Yorktown up next and eagerly awaiting the Titanic. Would love to see the Yamato and a Nimitz/Ford class carrier. Big? yes , but easier to build than 1/700 !

All good points from all of the comments. Some of us older kit modelers would love a larger scale to work with. The eyes are not as good as 30 yrs ago! Also you can put more painted detail on the ships and there is always one favorite ship we would always want in our collection. Lastly remember before we had 1/32nd scale aircraft or 1/16th scale tanks or 120mm scale figures.

I am with Juan & Dave on this one, the old eyesight cannot cope with 1/700th any more, need an optivisor even for 1/350th.

building the Mikasa in 1/200th and loving it.

Would very much like to see some cruisers & destroyers in that scale too.

1/200 is a perfect scale for destroyers and submarines in my view.
