Only just saw this so 2nd choices....
1. USS Texas. Only dreadnought still surviving and I love how she semi-sank herself to get the extra range to shell the germans
2. USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) - Love the look and versatility of this ship and her sisters. But I built the Iwo Jima so she is my favourite.
3. Graf Spee - Interesting looking ship and has a good history.
4. Not a single ship but I love the V&W destroyers of the RN in general.

USS Massachusetts – My first ship model at age 6, and the first BB I ever saw in person - I couldn’t believe how huge it was!
2. Aircraft carrier
IJN Zuikaku – “Lucky Crane” was arguably the best carrier in the world when commissioned, and for 3 years the luckiest ship in the Imperial Navy
3. Cruiser
DKM Prinz Eugen – beautiful ship!
4. Destroyer

Here's my choices:
All time favorite ships in each of the 5 categories below:
1. Toss up between USS Alabama and USS New Jersey. I've walked the decks of both. I live in Alabama and my father-in-law served on the Big J in Korea.

I'd forgotten about this one, too - I wanted to post some favorites here some time ago...
Well, I really have trouble to clearly name first and seconds, and I'm trying to toss in some new names, so here we go:
Battleship
Gneisenau - she is just a beauty imho and has a very impressive service record 1939-1941
HMS Warspite - probably the most impressive service record of a battleship
Aircraft carrier
HMS Victorious - just like the class, and to not name Illustrious again
USS John F. Kennedy CV 67 - served with her battlegroup and sailed on her for a week in 2000 - 2002
Cruiser
Admiral Hipper and Admiral Scheer - both probably not the most renown once, but the best service records of their respective classes. Hipper somehow is a little bit my all time favorite despite her design flaws...
HMS Norfolk (Bismarck chase, Scharnhorst battle of north cape)
Destroyer
I'd like to name a frigate, F225 Rheinland-Pfalz, for some very personal reasons
Z20 Karl Galster - for me the later 1936 boats are the most advanced destroyers of the DKM, the Z23+ very never really happy with their 15cm main artillery. And Z20 survived the war.
Well, no real favorites for civilian ships...(not that I don't like them, I simply can't name a special one)

I really don't have any ships in mind as a favorite but growing up along the Detroit river I would love to see a Laker (Lake Freighter)being offered. Something like the old Ford Motor boats that ran from Deluth to the Rouge plant in Dearborn.

TBH, I'm amazed at how little love the RN gets from model companies for it's carriers... The pioneers of naval aviation get one modern kit in 1/350 (The Ark)...
But then again, given how difficult it is (and expensive) to get access to the plans in order to develop an accurate kit, it's more than reasonable to understand why just about every other flat top from every other navy has been kitted up but there's only one modern offering from the RN in 1/350

Could not pass up replying on this one so here goes my list.
Battleships.......For my choice I have gone with the Bismarck. Just love her Lines and her projected power.
Carriers......Bunker Hill/Franklin...They both took one hell of a beating but superb crew work saved both Vessels.
Cruisers....Prinz Eugen....Just love her sleek lines and she survived the War intact.
DEstroyers......Yukikaze. Same as the Eugen.
Liners.....Andrea Doria.....Beautiful and well loved Ship with a Tragic and well documented demise.

Great choices.
Always been partial to the IJN Heavy Cruisers, the Takao for example. Just beautifully designed ships. They look like they're going at full speed even standing still!
Cold War, I would have to say the Fearless Class landing ships. Growing up and seeing them in books, TV and in The Spy Who Loved Me, I was fascinated with the design. The idea of flooding the rear and opening up doors for assault craft was really interesting to 8 year old me. Even built the old Airfix model to stage my own landings. Have another in the stash to do a much better job of at some point.
It would make a fantastic model at 1/350 scale.

Very interesting choice there, Stephen of the Fearless class... much more prettier ships than their successors, The Albion class...
Not sure about a kit in 1/350 unless a resin producer came to the table?
