Disaster! last night I applied the wood deck to the sub, and left it on my bench overnight ( I work in a separate room) and i left the window open and over night (I think) the temperature change warped the deck! It might have been my fault applying it, but i dont think so. Im still debating on what to do because as nice as the wood deck is its a little inaccurate in the fact of there is a noticeable gap between each plank on the real sub, but that is not shown on the wood deck but it IS shown (partly) on the kits molded deck. What do yall think on how i can fix the WD or remove it and use the kit one, or whatever? In this kindly donated photo you can clearly see the gap between each plank.

Another problem is the deck is about 1mm short so even after being placed as evenly as possible some details dont match up with there respective holes and details.

Bummer about the decking. It looks like the glue failed or the decking swelled due to humidity and couldn't expand so it released at the weakest glue joint.

You are right the planks should be spaced and molded deck would look better than the sheet decking.

Hi Ezra,I hope this kind of wood decks are very sensible to the paints, vernish or water,as happen with the real wood.
I have the project to realize the COBIA too. and I choose for the midle wooden deck these of Rcsubs in PE format and the version 1944.
It has the detail for a dinghie under deck.

Alright, now that what to do about the wood deck has been sorted out, I carefully pried it up off the kit deck then I scribed the kit lines deeper so they will look more accurate. Next I started applying some PE to the deck. Im still undecided if i should drill out all the holes on the plated deck or leave it.

I think removing the wood deck was a good idea, the planking
just didn't look right.
And there is nothing wrong with the plastic deck, the spacing looks
much better.
Once painted, It will look awesome.

I've been considering the same issue myself. Should I repost the pages so far on my Hatsuzuki build (thirteen of them!) or just pick it up where I left off? Those who haven't been following on the old site might be ignorant of the progress so far as they pick it up on the new site.

Since you are "only" four pages into your (very nice) Gato build, you might consider reposting them on the new site to create a continuous build story as you proceed. As time goes on it will make the build log a better resource for people to refer to as we stop using the old site.

Either way, I look forward to your progress with the Gato!
