Hey guys/gals, Just finished reading a book titled, "Last stand of the Tin Can Soldier". Its about the Battle of Samar in which 6 U.S.Navy destroyers and escort destroyers fought off a japanese fleet consisting of (28) destroyers, cruisers and battleships (including the YAMATO) from destroying some escort carriers that were caught unaware in the open. Talk about heroism. Who would have ever thought an escort destroyer would pound a battleship/cruiser into submission.

If you love duels between naval ships and big calibre guns, then this is the book for you, very intense. Hope you come away appreciating the "little guys" a bit more as I did.

Thanks for the heads up Spades! This sounds like an excellant book, I am familiar with the battle of Samar. I am building the USS Jenkins right now DD447, a Fletcher class ship. Me thinks me better get this book! Thanks again for sharing.

I got it last month with my initial Military Book Club order. Once I finish Band of Brothers and Unquestioned Valor, about the Great Escape, I plan to tear into it. I'm looking forward to this read. Thanks for the review.
