Hi All,
Here are shots of four Combined Fleet units, a CA, two CLs and a DD.
The CA I built 25+ years ago and just repainted. Same with Atago/Agano (don't recall spelling).
The DD is from last year and the CL is Tama, dressed for the Aleutians.
Oh, a wingy-thingy got loaded in with them, too. #:-)

Looks nice. I like the weathering. Did you drybrush some of the turret edges? I assume that you shot various shades of the base color through your airbrush for the mottled weathering appearance. I really like the effect.

Looking very good there Fred! Well pained! On ship models the painting is very important, and you have done it right! More pic's please!

Hi Guys,
The models are mottled after the basecoat. I do so via washes. For the washes I use diluted Future with water colors; rust is water colors in vinegar over the dry Future.
I've just started drybrushing the ships, just a little.
The deck of the CA was drybrushed with oil over Testors Flat tan that was paintted 20+ years ago--THEN I learned that IJN CA decks were not wood, but linoleum!
One thing about CL Tama. Note the brush strokes in the white? I did these with a 000 brush. I figured the camo was painted by brush and the swabbies' quality control wasn't what we modelers strive for! :-)
More photos ASAP

The watercolors give a nice subtle mottling. I suppose it is also easier to control given the small surfaces we're talking about here rather than trying to shoot various shades in there with an airbrush. I'll have to experiment with this when I start to weather my Tarawa.
