I am stuck Iam not sure what pattern if any to paint the decks of my model of USS Charles Ausburne DD570 as she appeared after her refit in Mare Island Navy Dockyard in September 1944.from images on website:
http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/sh-usn/usnsh-c/dd570-c.htm
The views looking down on the deck seems to show work in progress interupted by provisioning the ship.
The standard deck pattern was eck blue 20-B and ocean grey 5-0 scheme used with measure 32/14d.
Would any body know or remember if she had this standard 2 tone deck pattern or just 20-b colour decks October 1944-1945.
Also what colour was the underside of the of the overhanging bridge wings and gun tubs etc. was it : white 5-U.
Does anybody know of any existing photo images showing the decks at this time, if so how could I get a copy.
I realise this a big ask, but I like to do justice to this great ship and would appreciate any help you can offer.

Regards
Bryan Jones.

Hi Jonsbry !
In that scheme, all Verticle surfices were ocean grey, and all Horizontal surfices were Deck blue.
So the camo effect is, looking down from the air, all you see is the deck blue. And looking at it from water level all you would see is the Ocean Grey!

And yes, all undersides were painted the ocean grey color. Also the ships boats were painted the same way, blue on top , grey on the sides.
I know I have some pic's of that ship, I will try to find them and post them for you.

Hi Bryan

Have a look here:

Charles Ausburne Sept 27 1944

Since these photos were taken at mare Island It's likely she's sporting what appears to be a fresh camouflage job. The photos of the deck are not conclusive, but I don''t see any camo demarcation anywhere and I think there's enough of a difference between Deck blue and Ocean gray that it should be apparent. Notice the pivoted, padded lookout armchair on the bridge wing and all the "clutter" on deck......Mike T

Sorry that pic did not work! Here is a link to another helpful site. It is the US Navy ship camoflage from 1941 to 1945.

Hope this link is hot for you.

Clearly, the vertical surfaces are NOT overall 5-O Ocean Gray.

The Measure 3X camouflage series called for all overhanging structures to be countershaded on the underside in 5-U White.
