Hi all,

I have just completed my first wood ship model with a couple of flaws, but I feel satisfied with my first try. It is the 1/115 scale kit of Artesania Latina, which is a beginner kit. Because I had previous wood working and detailed modelling experience, I was not satisfied with the kit itself, so it came out as more-than-semi-scratch model. I will not tell them one by one to bore you, but if interested I can write what I have scratch-built. One thing, I have designed and made the display case myself at a very low cost.

Here are the photos (Sorry if it is slow, I tried to optimize them):

Feel free to criticize it, I am quite aware about some flaws, but could not correct them. Tell them to me, because I am surely missing something there, as I am new at this. This model thought me a lot about ship modelling, and hopefully with your contributions will continue doing that.

Thanks for your interest.

Regards.
Cagin.

I know nothing about shipmodeling, so I can't help you with correcting any flaws there might be.
I just think it is a beautiful shipmodel.

I too know nothing about ship building. (and only just learning about armour )
But I do know a damn fine model, of any kind, when I see one!
Great work.

Cagin,

That is a fine job you have done there. Is it a plank on frame kit or solid hull? My wife bought me the Artesania Latina "San Fransisco" for Christmas (link below) and I am just getting starting. My first ship, too. The rigging on your ship looks good. The rigging is the one thing that scares me about mine.

Great job.

Shaun

Shaun,

My kit is plank on solid hull, so it was rather easy to build it. Yours seems like a plank on bulkhead kit, so it will be harder for you I suppose. The rigging of Bluenose is quite easy compared to your kit, too. But the tiny scale of Bluenose made it quite impossible to rig especially towards the end, when I started adding the sails.

One critical advice: Before using the threads supplied, just soak in diluted white glue or bees wax. This is to avoid the feathering of it.

Good luck with your model.

Regards.

Thanks Cagin. Yeah my hull is going to be a treat. Plank on bulkhead, and you have to do it twice, a first layer out of cheap wood and the finish layer of walnut veneer...
It is a good thing it is a sailing ship because I may end "sailing" it across the basement.
Thanks for advice on the beeswax.

Looks fantastic......
Perhaps my buddy Graywolf could help you do a nice detailed write up article on how you built this beauty.
HINT...... HINT..... HINT....... :-) :-) :-)

If you need a block of ship-rigging beeswax.... PM me your
address..... I'd be happy to send you some.

Hello Cagin!
What a beautiful finished model you have here. First ship build or not, this is outstanding work! I give you congratualations on a fine build.
Are you planning on continueing to build this type of model? I suppose you will if you enjoyed building this one!

Well done Cagin,

Garry

Thank you very much, Garry for your kind words. I will go on building wood ship models, harder one each time, but I also plan to go on with my plastics, dioramas and so on.

Thanks again.
Cagin.
