Howdy fellas,
Leanin' way out on a limb here maybe but....wasn't the "401" style of submarine the Japanese vessel that had the enclosed aircraft 'hanger' mounted on it's seadeck just to the rear of the conning tower?
If in fact it is....what type of aircraft did the 'hanger' house?
Tread.

The I-400 class submarines (I-400 to I-404) had a long hangar that housed 3 aircraft. They were built for a special raid on the Panama Canal that never went through. The aircraft were the Aichi M6A1 floatplanes (I believe Tamiya makes a 1/72 of this).
I believe all Japanese submarines with aircraft had the hangars and catapults at the front.
